This is a gun I recently finished for a very patient LEO in the northern part of the country. His specifics for this new duty gun were pretty simple... he wanted a full-house piece that featured checkering front and rear, a light rail, PG sights, and hard chrome... and the rest was more or less up to me.

He had a pretty good foundation for what he wanted in the gun but gave me a good bit of leeway and discretion to add what I felt the gun needed or to choose the parts I thought would best serve his purpose. So in addition to his requests the gun got the full work over with a frame and slide fit, Nowlin stainless steel barrel, Ed Brown thumb safety, beveled mag-well, S&A grip safety, Nowlin mag-catch, as well as the usual host of other functional modifications one will find on a full-house ride. Cosmetics also being a big part of any full-house conversion this gun got a flattened and serrated slide top, bordered slide, rear slide serrations, and any other detailing as needed.

It’s cool to see that hard chrome is still a viable finish option for some and it’s always a pleasure to complete a gun such as this one and know that it’s going to get used on a day-to-day basis. There’s not much more that thrills me than knowing that someone is going to spend some time trying to wear a piece out… a full-house gun that’s seen some holster miles is generally a pretty good piece of eye candy for me. I’ll be glad to have this one serving its new owner well for some time to come.  Enjoy the pictures!

Beauty!

Off topic and a novice question, but why are 1911's carried with the hammer back?

So you can shoot them. Probably a discussion better off in a different thread.

Who makes the light rail you put on the pistol and where can you get the tap to install it?and I agree a very fine looking pistol.

I like it, despite the fact it's a Springfield.

But this puzzles me:

It’s cool to see that hard chrome is still a viable finish option for some

Why on earth wouldn't it be?

The light rail on that gun is one of our parts... it's something we used to make but have discontinued. The tap can probably be had at most hardware stores, MSC, or possibly Brownell’s.

I hear where you’re coming from… it certainly is still a great finish as far as I’m concerned and probably the most durable of all finishes currently available. I think that most folks figure they “need” a black gun and hard chrome being “white” just doesn’t appeal. Funny thing being that most will probably use the gun in a concealed format so the color of the gun will seldom matter as much as its durability. But part of it may also be people’s perception as to what is currently “cool” and right now Parkerizing and synthetic finishes are quite the rage. We're old fashioned so we still like good ol' bluing and hard chrome.

My self, I still shoot, use, and abuse polished blued guns but were I to go a different route the finish would be hard chrome all the way.

Beautiful, Mr. Burton. The script on the barrel and the crown are both incredibly attractive to me.

I hope to be able to do something similar while in the police academy next year, sort of a graduation present to myself.

I don't prefer the "Twinkie" hammer, but otherwise...  A perfect piece.
