I have a Gold Cup Natl Match. Is it possible (and cost worthy) to purchase a commander (4") barrel, spring guide/spring and slide and slip it onto the Natl Match full length lower? If so, what parts/manufacturers are recommeded? THANKS! |

Is it worth it? No. You'd have to have the slide fitted in order to make it shoot decently. The dust cover of the GC is longer than the Commander frame as well. By the time you bought parts from Brownells & paid a good gunsmith to fit it all together, you could've bought a good used Commander. My .o2 |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I once owned a Champion, I couldn't get the SOB to run for shit despite several trips to the gunsmith. The nose of the rds would hit the slide catch & lock the slide back. NOT a desireable bit for a CCW use. Not to slam SA as my Govt model is a SA. I would suggest getting either a "real" Commander by Colt or perhaps a Kimber. |
| BobCole: I copy your advice. Can you be more specific on ammo make and bullet type? My other choice is a Kimber Tactical 4". The trigger pull felt crisper and not as creepy at onset on the Springfield, that was one reason I was leaning SA. Also, I favored the steel/steel on the SA versus steel/aluminum on the Kimber. Your thoughts are welcomed! |

Hell, I had my gunsmith do damn near everything to make that SOB run, all to no avail. I'm not the first one with problems with the Champion, I assure you. |
