I'm trying to make a decision on what to do about a full size 45. I've decided if I buy another pistol it's going to be something other than a striker fired pistol. I carry and use a Glock 19 as my first choice but I have the hankering for a new 45 in something different. I have a XDM45 that is like new currently. It is very accurate but I hate the trigger. Right now I am trying to decide between my following options.

Keep the XDM and drop in a PRP trigger kit

or

sell the XDM and put that money towards one of the following:

HK45 or P227

I have not shot either. I have held the P227 and must say it feels very nice. I have not held the HK45 but I am familiar with some of their other pistols.

Opinions?

I vote HK45

I have the LEM variant

Mine has been excellent, I also like the same trigger weight which you do not get with the 227

The shitty part is how much they cost but they are excellent guns

ETA:  You could save a lot of money by keeping your XDM

That HK45 seems pretty sweat, but you're right about saving money. The responsible side of me keeps saying I already have a full size 45 and the PRP trigger would only run $125 and probably turn the gun from good to great.

Triggers on 1911s are generally pretty sweet.

Didnt see that in you OP, but I would think that way if you are worried about triggers

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a couple of 1911's and have enjoyed them but I am looking to possibly try something different.

The more I read about the PRP triggers the more I think I may just go that route and keep what I got.

I'd do the PRP trigger or get a 1911.

If you want a better trigger, you'll have to go to a 1911 to get significantly better than a tuned XDm.

H&K and Sig is going in the wrong direction.

Well if your into saving money... Have your priced HK mags? They are in the realm of full blown retarded for what HK thinks OEM mags are worth. I personally like to have 5-7 mags per pistol I own. YMMV though.

If you're looking for quality, then either the HK or SIG is the way to go; quality costs.

A guy I know and whose opinion I respect, owns 2 dozen custom and semi custom 1911s and an HK45.

The HK45 is his second favorite pistol and he claims it is as accurate as any of them.

That old guy can really shoot.

My opinion? Everyone should own at least one fine pistol if at all possible.

If you actually pick one up you will buy it or the non tactical version.
nice trigger, mag capacity and comes with 3, stainless barrel and slide that is DLC coated.

This is the correct answer.

Of course, a Colt Rail Gun or M&P 45 mid-size are equally good choices.

it's true.

Sometimes you have to spend a lot of money to get to a Glock, because you end up buying a bunch of fancy mistakes first.

Lots of good recommendations here, but you probably won't like mine.

Spend that money on ammo and range time for the gun that you would actually use to defend your life.

I would also buy a duplicate of that gun and use one for carry and one for beating up at the range.

Nothing wrong with that suggestion. I shoot my Glock 19 the most and do a couple of classes a month so I probably shoot 1000 rounds a month at this time. I may sell off both the XDm9 and XDm45 and pick up a Glock 21 and more ammo though. Thinking of going Glock only at this time but it's always nice to diversify a bit and that's why I was considering the HK or Sig227

That's cool man, and my post really doesn't apply to you in light of what you just stated.

I would still consider that backup G19 in the future.  It's comforting to know that you could lose your primary carry/hd gun and have a duplicate in hand immediately.

I have the following 45 ACPS
Glock 30, 36
H&K Mark 23, USP and HK 45 C
Sig P220
Handful of 1911s
No 45 ACP revolver, yet

I have shot the XD 45 and XDM 45, and I like the trigger.  If you're not a fan of your trigger, then it's probably best to move to a different firearm.   I personally don't think it's wise to mess with factory configurations, unless it's solely for targets/range/competition.

Although I love my HKs and Sig, I am not a huge fan of DA/SA.  I'm not a fan of external safeties, either.  I do not trust a Decocker.  If I have to do it over, I'd get a 45 ACP DAO.  Then I know what that trigger feels like every single time I shoot.  It comes down to muscle memory.

As for "newer" guns on the market, with recalls and issues, I don't appreciate being a Beta tester for any company.  Been there, done that (Diamondback DB9, S&W Sigma of the 90s, Para P14 of the 90s, etc).  Refer to, of late, the XDS, P938 and P238 recall.

If the shop lets you dry fire then see what feels good.  Check with your buddies who have other pistols and try the gun out.  Try rentals but they're not exactly in the most optimal condition.

Your least expensive option is to get used to what you have.

This. I love my Glock 19's I carry them 99% of the time but I like to try different things always because I work in a gun shop and I would like to actually know what I am talking about when I am selling guns.

The new HK45 is an awesome gun, the grip is very comfortable and they just look damn good and shoot very well but there is just something about the old USP design that I love which is why I bought one simply for a suppressor host. I have paperwork out right now on an AAC Tirant can for my USP 45 Tactical. The gun is built very well and shoots like a dream, even for my small hands I can work a USP 45 no problem. Yes they are expensive and so are the mags and holsters are harder to find but it was worth it to me.....because I got it at distributor cost Seriously, I don't think HK's are worth their retail price but I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy one either.

They make LEM kits for the USP pistols as well
