Went to the range yesterday with my ruger mark III 22/45 and GSG 1911. Ran about 400 rounds. Had such a blast shooting.  Have not done a .22lr range session in a while. Wanted to get out for a bit and have some fun before this storm hits  need to do this more often  Thinking I want to get an s&w 617 as my next .22.  stay safe.

I love going to the range with a couple of .22s. Lately it has been my 5 1/2" barreled 22/45. After a little trigger work, that thing is a heck of a bargain as a very nice target pistol. It would take a Ransome Rest to determine the exact numbers, but it seems to be very close to my S&W Model 41, at least hand held.

You will not go wrong on a 617.  I picked up a 6" about a month and half ago.  Bought an M&P22 3 weeks ago.  Took both out to the range, at the end of the day I had shot 2 1/2 bricks (probably 1300 rnds) what a blast.  Towards the end both barrels were so leaded up neither would hit the target with any accuracy, but what a blast.  I have more than 1 gun :-}  but 22's are without a doubt my favorite.  Just bought 10k rnds from the CMP.  Hope it lasts longer than the 4k I bought last time it was on sale.

I picked up a new 617 4" at bass pro April of this year. It is rapidly becoming my favorite handgun. I shoot it DA which is heavy but smooth 99% percent of time but the SA pull is very nice as well. If you are thinking about a 617, get one!

If you have access to shooting steels that's where the fun with .22lr is.  We set up little mini competitions with hits/time and it's a lot of fun plus good practice....I love the ping sound too.
