Does anyone have experiences with Fusion Firearms? I've been reading a bit about them on 1911forum, m1911.org and 1911auto and they seem to be held in very high regards. Built by those who turned DW around, etc. Just curious, I'm hunting another 1911 (prior thread below) and wanted to see if any ARFCommers had experiences. |
|
I purchased the beginnings of a kit from them. Before I bought anything I called and asked some questions. Bob Serva, the President of the company is who answered the phone each time I called, and he is the one who answered my e-mails. It took 2 and a half weeks from the time I ordered my frame/slide/barrel/bushing, for it to be fitted, checkered, and delivered to my local FFL dealer. Fitting parts into the frame has not been difficult. Slide frame and barrel fit are super tight, yet smooth. Overall very impressed so far. I still have to get my slide parts all purchased, do a final bead blast, and finish the pistol. I can hardly wait to shoot it. |
I haven't seen (or looked at) much of their kit setups. I think this might be an interesting project. What sort of finish work are you going to do? Fitting beaver tail, trigger, is that about it, or is there much more required with their kit? If you happen to have links to someone (or your) build progress I'd be interested in reviewing. Maybe something to look into in the future at the least. |

Link to my project As far as fitting parts goes I had to fit the sear, and disonnector, polish out the trigger bow and trigger track. Insure that all ignition parts worked properly once installed. This particular gun will be a national match bullseye pistol and has to retain a certain number of GI features, so it is not a really involved build. Fusion did all the hard fitting for me (slide to frame, barrel to slide and bushing). The slide stop required a bit of fitting as it projected into the feed way. All that remains is fitting up the firing pin stop once I get it, and tuning the extractor, as well as contourng the back of the extractor so it conforms to the rear of the slide. Then Bomar sights will be fitted after I do a final bead blast to smooth over some of the minor blemishes I've created while assembling and dissasembling the pistol 100 times while I check fit of parts. Then this one will either be Parkerized and coated with a spray on finish. or returned to Fusion for their ION Bond coating, or I have entertained the thought of having it hard chromed since it looks pretty nice in the white. |

I will be sending my 10mm longslide back for a SECOND time shortly. It failed to eject and crushed 11 cases out of 50 and failed to fire twice. 13 failures in 50 rounds is unacceptable. When I first got it and went to the range it failed to fire the FIRST time I pulled the trigger and it got worse from there.80 percent failure. They changed the whole top end and it still is not right. |
|
gs1150........... I don't believe we ever said it was "normal for the 10mm to be a POS". Why would we say that and continue to build them and have an extreme majority of our 10mm customers be totally happy with them? I guess all I can say is when you sent the pistol back to us we worked it and test fired it with no problems. If you would call Bob I'm sure he will work with you and we can get this resolved. Thanks, Dale. |
The FIRST time I pulled the trigger of my 10mm long slide the gun failed to fire.It got to the point of 80 percent failure. I was told to "Adjust the rear sight" ![]() Sent the gun in. Only a 2 week turn around. Replaced top end. Now I "Only" have 5 percent failure to fire,5 percent failure to feed and five percent failure to properly eject. I have changed recoil springs and loads. No improvement. And yes on another forum Fusion admitted that there is a problem with the 10mm long slide. If it wasnt for the fact that the gun is Beautiful and Accurate I would have already asked for my money back. |
| I got an Officer forged frame from Fusion that I could not be happier with. Since then I got a slide and barrel from Bob at Fusion too. I have not seen the barrel or slide yet due to being overseas but based on my experience they are good to deal with and sell a quality made product. |
| I have a 10mm Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander - similar issues FTE, Failure to lock back up after firing (there has to be some term for this) and stove piping. Sent it back and while its better, the pistol is soooo damn tight that after a box or two, I have to push the slide forward to return it to battery. Until I have the $ to send it to a competent smith, its a $900 range toy / safe queen. Its a very well-made product - perhaps too well made. Love 1911s but still bet my life on the drastic plastic G19...I know Bob Serva was associated with DW and both Fusion and DW have exceptional customer service. I also know that DW's CS Dept has been Very busy fixing these tight-ass pistols just cruise the boards @ 10mmtalk to see. |
| I got my fusion kit together enough to function check it. No sights installed. I ran a target out to 20 feet and ran three mags through it. (Novak, CMC, and Kim-Pro Tac-Mag) All functioned well and even without sights I could cover the group with the palm of my hand. All rounds fed fired, and ejected. This is a standard Gov't .45 though. No 10mm for me. |
Wow. ![]() |
Wow! That kind of thing is enough to cause most ppl around here to never do buisness with your company. Maybe you would like to pull your foot out of your mouth and fix the problem you just created.
|
Seriously. |

Ya know, when I posted this thread asking about Fusion Firearms, I was hoping to see comments about how they were easy to deal with, fixed problems if there were any, and so forth. What I did not expect to see was someone (supposedly from Fusion) putting their foot in their mouth so far they can taste the back of their knee. I was/am expecting to purchase one of their 1911s. Hopefully the poster here will right his wrong. From every other post or comment I've seen I've never encountered a comment like that posted above so I can only hope it will be remedied. ![]() Brandon |
So does that mean you will help GS1150 with his problem? As he has proven that he not only owns a pistol but one of yours. |
|
Hi guys, Yes, of course we will help gs1150 with his gun as I offered in my last posting. All he has to do is call us and set it up. All we ask is that when a customer has a problem that he or she come to us and ask for help rather than going on a public forum and badmouthing, especially when we didn't know that there were still issues. We really do work very hard at our business of providing superior products and services and customer service is by far a very large part of business. We put in long hours every day and this is shown if you have ever called us. Be it morning noon or night we are there to answer the phone and usually in the shop working. Our families have sacrificed for this as we aren't with them as much as we could be. Sometimes when you are working your butt off 16 hours a day and you see something like this issue on a forum it can make the worst come out and we apologize. GS1150....if you would call us we will get the problem resolved. Dale at Fusion. |
At this point I think he was asking for his money back.
|
Was this a complete gun when you bought it or did you add your own assembly, springs, and fire control parts? |
|
Brandon, I own a 10mmacp 5" Fusion and I can assure you they (Bob & Dale) stand behind their firearms. Their customer service is prompt, personal and as good as I have experienced wirh Springfield or Ruger (my experiences with both have been great over the years). I had a few minor issues with my Fusion pistol (partially due to what I specified) and Fusion approached them with a professional 'we can solve it' attitude. Buy one it is a great gun (and one of the best triggers you will touch). I am saving up for a Fusion CBOB in 40S&W right now and plan to sell a Colt for part of the funding. frank. |

My apology...I thought the discussion was more sustentative than mere semantics. The Fusion handgun (pistol) that I own is chambered for the 10mm Auto cartridge. I have referred to this round as the 10mm Auto Cartridge Pistol round since about 1987. I stand corrected. The Fusion is still a very well made handgun (pistol) frank |
It might be difficult to have a sustentative discussion in the future if you assume YOUR semantics and nomenclature are what everyone else should be using. |
I just noticed you recently joined the site. Welcome! ![]() The more time you spend here, the more you will come to realize that the proper use of nomenclature is very important around here. |
| I was all hot and heavy for a 10mm long slide hunter, then an older Dan Wesson RZ10 Razorback came along. I guess if I sold it and the 1006 I would buy one. All custom guns I have ever had require a break in period. I recall my Les Baer Premier II was so tight for the first 200 rounds it would not function properly. After I got all the sharp edges off it ran 100% and was damn accurate. |
Substantive? |

Say,Bob, Can I have your number because I am looking to build a Commander .45. I don't want any bells and whistles. I don't want slanted cocking serrations. I don't want competition sights(basic Combat sights will do). I just want an EXACT copy of the Colt Series 70 Commander. Can you help me out there? ETA: IM me please. |

As to the whole issue with the suggestion to raise the rear sight and folks wondering what that would have to do with anything, this is what I recently found while installing the sights on my Fusion kit. With the BoMar style sights the cut in the frame brings the lower edge of the rear sight blade down to a level that it can interfere with the hammer on its way to the firing pin. A second discovery is that the elevation screw is also tapped into the frameand the screw hole extends into the firing pin channel. If the screw were long enough to be entering the firing pin channel this could account for the frequent failures to fire. I had to trim down the top of my hammer to accomodate the BoMar sight, but there is no screw interference in the firing pin channel on my Fusion kit. Might still be worth a check though. Good luck GS1150. I personally have had a pleasant experience with Fusion so far. |
