I'm selling my .45 and getting a 9mm due to ammo cost.
Other than being slightly larger, what is different about the G17. I asked which one to go with in the Glock forums, and everyone said the G19. Why is the 19 'better?' I've shot a 2nd gen G19, and it felt fine. Is the grip that much smaller? If the 19 can take 17 mags, it can't be too much different (fatness wise). I'm thinking of going with a used 2nd gen G17, and if I do, and it breaks or screws up, will Glock take care of me? Thanks. |

Neither is "better", they're both outstanding pistols. Can't go wrong with either.
Probably more love for the G19 due to it being slightly more concealable, to most folks. I carry a G17 everyday, no problem concealing it. I also like the feel of the full-size grip just a little bit better. They're both great though................I'd carry either one with confidence. Yes, Glock has an outstanding track record of customer service. Go with either one, you won't be disappointed. |

I have had both the 17 and 19 2nd gens. I am one of the folks who like the 3rd gens better, plus I want to put night sight on all my go to guns. Sold them both and bought a new G19 and 34 w/ NS last year. It was a good deal for me IMHO.
Anyhow the only reason the 19 is better is if you are planing on CCW. If you can afford it get a 34 instead of a 17. Although, the 17/34 grip does fit my (large)hand a little better. FB |

I was issued a G19 for about 3 years. I love it. I bought a G17 because it was a great deal. It's nice but not quite as concealable as the G19. I'd rather have both. If I can't, I want the G19.
It's large enough to be a service pistol but small enough to conceal. Besides, I use G17 as reloads so I'm not losing much. |

My friend has one and I do like it. Maybe I'll end up with one in a trade, if not, I'll be getting a used G17 because its a great value. |

I have large hands but still find the 19 much more comfortable than the 17.
As for giving up 45acp for 9mm, there is currently a 20 cents per round difference. (10$/50 for 9mm, $20/50 for 45acp for range ammo). It will take 2600 rounds to amortize the G19 in the box. If you add in 4 extra magazines and a holster it's more like 3,250 rounds. Have you counted how many rounds you actually shoot per year? This of course, doesn't consider reloading. All of my primary SD pistols are still 9mm's but since I've recently started shooting 45acp in a 1911, I don't think I want to give it up. |

I'm wanting to put at least a case per month through it. Hmm.. June.. July.. you'll be good by the end of August on cost. You're still going to miss the 45 though. Bon Appetite! I'd love to keep it. But I've always wanted a Glock, and 9mm just seems a lot more economical. I'll get back into the .45 game. Just not for a few years... |

Whichever fits your hand better. In my case that's the 17. This. IMO, neither is a great for CC (especially in summer months) , but the 19would be slightly better then the 17. My 17 is a home/range gun and fits my hand perfect and is a dream to shoot. Hey, it's a Glock so either one is a great choice. |
