Since the 19X was created from the 19MHS which was submitted to the trials and lost I don't see it happening.  Like others have said they will all be using the Sigs when it's all said and done.

I too am interested in your reasoning for saying the 19X specifically would be "the perfect gun for SOCOM."

Saying they needed a more concealable pistol is just the rationale they came up with to get what they wanted. Gaming the system.

I'm sure they'd appreciate if Glock would make them a grippier frame than the standard Gen 3, but it's Glock.

I thought I read a while back that USMC was going to be buying Gen 5 / 19Ms? Curious if any of those are in the wild.

I think we're all saying the same thing in substance. The question is whether the G19 is just that "magical Goldilocks size" or whether the specific variant/size chosen is a function of "gaming the system," as you say.

I know for a fact that there are both guys who really do think that G19s are the magical Goldilocks size, and would pick it over all others, just like there are guys who would much rather have a 17 than the 19, but would rather have the 19 than the M9, so 19 it is. I also know there are guys that have other ways to justify things (or other people to justify them to), and have 17s, 22s, 34s, 35s, etc., etc.

The Marines did announce late last year that they were adopting the 19M as, wait for it... the "M007," you know... for their secret agents1, but they also announced earlier this year that they were jumping on the XM17/18 MHS train, and that "The Modular Handgun System will be purchased to replace the legacy M9, M9A1, M45A1, and M007 pistols with a more affordable and efficient pistol for maintenance"2.

Maybe perfect was to strong a word but what I meant was the 19X already has steel night sights and marine sling cups, etc from the factory and as I understand it these are things that are being added to the guns anyway.

I'll bet my career that I won't see this pistol before retirement from the Air Force. Our OSI folks are still issued the M11 but carry whatever 9mm they can get their command to approve (commonly see G26 and G19). The Air Force is an entirely different animal from the Army when it comes to weapon systems.

I never bought a g19 and really liked the g17 longer grip. Something about the g19 feels too small as a service pistol but too big to be a conceal carry, at least for me.

That was until the g19x came out and I bought one immediately. Really like the g19 slide and the g17 grip. That and my g17 mags can still be used.

If I was in the SF though and had the option I would go with the g19 only because I wouldn’t anticipate ever using it and wouldn’t want to lug around a huge pistol when I could be carrying more rifle mags which would likely be used.

Air Guard is State funded same as Nat'l Guard. Big Air Force has not mentioned anything. If it were to happen or planned any time soon, Combat Arms would be notified of the change first because of training, qualification, and arming requirements per applicable AFI's. No pubs as of yet that I have seen but I work Flight now not Combat Arms full-time, so I'd have to talk to our CA Program Sup. for clarification.

This is a major misconception.  The National Guard is not state funded.  The vast, vast majority of their funds are federal funds.

Sorta. Should have clarified, it's not the State Guard, but Air National Guard. Some funds are from the state but the big purchase stuff like that comes via National Guard Burea and Federal funding. CATM was notified of the change at the last S4 Teleconference that the Installation and Mission Support Center guys put out. I know a fair number of Security Forces units have already sent their guys to armorers courses. As to the pubs stuff, look how the uniform thing is going, they "surprised" us with a new uniform at the beginning of this month that we all knew they were going to for the last year and they still don't have a 36-2903 rewrite to say how to wear it and we're supposed to be set by 1 October.

That would be a bad assumption. Special Operations personnel carry concealed in civilian clothes all the time and periodically have to use their pistols in combat. A good example was a teammate of a friend of mine who was conducting a raid in Baghdad. As he entered a room, an insurgent standing to the side of the door grabbed the barrel of his M4, so he let go of his rifle, drew his pistol, and shot the insurgent as he was still struggling to pull the rifle away. Rifles can’t do everything, especially in really tight quarters, so it’s always good to have a reliable pistol as a backup.

Yes, lots of Glock extended slide releases.  No aftermarket ones however.  As far as manual of arms that is an individual thing.  To me a handgun is a one handed weapon which should be able to be operated with just one hand.  Slingshoting the slide takes two.  And I know Glock refers it as a slide hold open lever not a release lever.

There are means to procure things outside of the normal supply chain.  I had that job for a short while.  Back then, I had to draw cash and get a Humvee or Jeep(radio set) vehicle from motorpool, drive to town, make the purchase, and then return the change and check the vehicle back in.  A huge waste of effort for some of the most petty shit that could have been ordered on the phone with a PO or credit card.

That's great for the SF's G19s which have MOS cut. So perhaps its for them,,,
Personally If I were still in, I would not run a RMR on my Glock.
Id run it 45degree offset on rifle, or on top of Elcan
EOTech MRDS that is current issue, is pretty poor.

So to C Diver or anyone else who has first hand experience, what has been your experience with the Glock MOS system, specifically how have they held up in actual combat use/combat environments and have you seen any issues arise with the system?

The MOS option is one I see get bashed all the time, the recommendation is always get it cut for a specific optic instead. That would obviously always be the more idea and stable option, but with everyone dogging the MOS I'd like to hear how they actually hold in extreme environments.

I too do not have any first hand experience either but until I read this thread I really didnt pay any attention to what our guys use, but this past week I took notice.

All (that I saw and/or talked to) JTAC and PJs were carrying G19 MOS with an optic I couldnt readily identify.

One guy was "turning in" his G26 to somewhere for some reason, I know zero details of either. It also was a MOS cut gun, I think he was a loadmaster?

I did ask my MXO (prior enlisted PJ) what his thoughts were concerning us possibly seeing the M18 this calendar year, he said "screw SIG" but didn't elaborate any further.

I'm not in a privileged area with these guys, we just happen to share a hangar. I'm merely ACFT maintenance and we thigh carry whatever is left over and possibly functioning. (functional is optional) Since I enlisted (1996) I have carried a 1911, M9, BHP and most recent is the Glock 19.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread, I actually look forward to new replies here and I hope my meager addition is beneficial.

Cheers, Sam
