I bought a used G26 over a week ago and I noticed something, smooth finger grooves.  I thought it was supposed to have checkered finger grooves like the backstrap?  No biggie, just curious if anyone can answer this for me?

I purchased a new Glock 26 last week. At least on the current generation - the finger grooves are checkered as the backstrap is.

It's just an early G26, no biggie.

Are you really Gaston Glock, just chillin and answering question?  Seriously, I haven't seen a thread in the Glock forum that you don't have an answer to.  And you always include pictures diagrams, examples and so on.  I'm very impressed and unfortunately (by your own doing) you are now the first person I'm going to email/im the second I have a question about my glocks!
