The Glock 30/30SF... school me- Opinions , likes , dislikes, good, bad?
The only bad thing I have read on many forums is the LACK of a good retention holster for the G30? The guns been out since1997 & no retention holster.....HEY BLACKHAWK you listening??? |
|
The problem with the 30 is it's size to capacity ratio. The 36 is nice because it's slim like a G19 but it has a fairly low capacity. The 21 is nice b/c of it's high capacity, but it's a big gun (not ideal for CCW). The 30 falls somewhere in the middle - not the greatest for CCW but not the worst - not great for capacity, but not the worst.
That being said, my first Glock in .45 was the 36 which I use for CCW. Then, I wanted a .45 for the nightstand, so I went with the 21. Now, I just want to round out my collection of .45s, so the 30 is next on my list. |

And .45 caliber Glocks aren't as reliable as 9mm Glocks. A friend even had one go high order in his hands. How do you figure? I am responsible for 248 G21's on average most of them are around the 50,000 round mark with some nearer 100,000 rounds and in the 18 years we have had them, not one of them has gone HIGH ORDER

My g30 is a tack driver. It has light recoil for its size and the size of the bullet. For some people the grip is to fat though. So try one out before you buy. The g30 is my latest addition to a large number of glocks I own. I wish I had not waited so long to get one. You will not be disappointed if you get one. |

Observations of my own over a small sampling, corroborated by the much more statistically relevant observations of, among others, Gary Roberts and Larry Vickers. Plus my friends gun blowing up. As a rule of thumb I am fine with chambering a handgun in a cartridge that is smaller than it was meant to hold, but boring more metal out to fit something larger is something I like to avoid. |

From what I have read the 21 was built from the ground up for the .45 and the 30 is based off the 21. My 2 30's have been great with no problems. I have 2 19's as well and the 30 is smaller then the 19 in almost every way. Not by much but it is smaller. It's a 20, rebored. |

In my reloading book it has all 10mm loadings at higher pressure thenthe 45. So wouldn't that make the 21 and 30 the stronger built gun? |
|
I've had my G-30 for a week, and I'm shooting it better than I shoot my G-17L that I've had for years.
Once I got some Heinie sights on it, the accuracy got really good. Recoil is much less than any Glock .40. The G-30 is the most 'shootable' Glock I've ever owned. |

Depends on the relationship of chamber pressure to barrel walls. |

The guns been out since1997 & no retention holster.....HEY BLACKHAWK you listening??? Just get a Blackhawk SERPA for the G21 and carefully cut off the muzzle end to size with a dremel. Works fine. |

A g21 serpa will not work! I have a 21 & the 30 slide is just a hair wider! I thought they were the same.... They are not!!!! Don't know why the Serpa won't work but from the Glock website Length x Width X Height Glock 21 193mm x 32.5mm x 139 mm Glock 30 172mm x 32.5mm x 121mm I love my model 30. Pmc |

I recall using a chop saw with a carbide tipped blade, not a dremel, on mine and it functions well. It is cut back to the barrel. Personally, I don't use it for general concealed carry as I find the Serpa doesn't fit close enough to the body for most carry situations, but when taking the dogs out for walk on the back forty, it works well. |

I swear the "I hate serpa holsters" Cheese eaters around here are getting to me. "You'll shoot cher sulf" It'll Jammmmmmmmm onyer!" "Gravel in the mech tarps yer guuuunnnnn!!" "Theu'll Break off yeur Belt!" "They are Plastuck!" Serpa holsters are good holsters. G21 holsters fit the G30, and yes you can cut them down, and still look good. Use in good health, and use the side of your index knucke to release it. not the tip of your finger. Read the fuggin directions. |

When I draw my G30SF I know: According to the philosophy, "When you need a gun, you need a gun badly...so have a real bad gun"
1. I have enough gun 2. I have enough ammo (24 rnds with extra mag) 3. I have a gun that feels comfortable, and to shoot 4. I have a gun that is knat's ass accurate 5. I have a gun that has been 100% reliable 6. I have a great leather holster with plenty of retention (Kirkpatrick TSS) |

I LOVE my G30. I got it used from my local gun store. it has the cool green fiber optic/tritium night sights. I used it for my CCW training where we have to put 70 rounds downrange and it preformed flawlessly. the recoil was very manageable and it was very accurate too.
when I first bought it, I thought the sights were just fiber optic type sights. I never did use it in low light or in the dark. but I was wearing it a couple weeks later at night while camping in Colorado and the little green eyes staring up at me from my belt kinda freaked me out for a second. it's a bit too bulky and heavy for me to use as my CC weapon, that's why I am currently shopping for a G36. so it resides on my night table, next to the bed. |

Pmc That is the same thing I have done for my G30. Yah, it is a little loose, but tighten down the tension screw and it should take the slop out of it. I have done this a little bit, but even with the loose fit, I don't think it is going to come loose, even when running. Two piecess of advice. 1st, make sure you get one of the newer Blackhawk holsters with the lower sides, because there is "chance" of an AD, according to some posts on here. 2nd, when you cut off the bottom, make sure to leave a little extra past the muzzle to protect the crown, and make sure to round the edge. It can tear into your clothes, your furniture, or your car seats. |

Standard 21 and 30 work very well in both of the Serpa holsters I own. One belt mounted and shortened and the other on a drop leg, no mods. As for the knuckle vs tip of finger to release: That's a training issue and to each his own. |
