I had a chance to handle one of these today at the gun store. In a nutshell, I was not impressed.

I would consider this to be more of a compact model instead of a true subcompact. This may be very attractive to some people--I know a lot of people wish Glock made a compact .45, but for the reasons below, I think this pistol is a poor compromise.

In comparing the G30SF to a G19, I found that the slide length is the same--it doesn't have a short slide like the 26/27. The frame is short like the other subcompacts, and the magazine that was in the gun had some kind of extension on it, which gave my pinky a place to sit--but it wasn't as solid a hold as I get with a compact 19 or 23.

So you get the same size slide as a 19 or 23, and a grip that is maybe a couple millimeters shorter, yet feels much less solid. It just doesn't feel "subcompact." I think they should have just made a new model and called it a "compact," with a 19/23 length frame--or, they should have made a shorter slide, which would make it a real subcompact.
