I'm giving some serious thought to adding a G30 to my CCW battery (my G21 is definitely my "go to" gun but a little too bulky to conceal on my frame) but haven't been able to find one to try first. Asking questions will have to be the next best thing. I know recoil, muzzle rise, et cetera are pretty subjective but how would you compare the "shootability" of the 30 to the 21? Does accuracy suffer much from the shortened barrel? Anything model-specific to be aware of or keep an eye out for? |

Ditto the above posters, own 2-G21s and 1-G30, it replaced my way too expensive (for a carry piece) Detonics Combat Master as my daily pocket pal. While not as "up-to-speed" in spitting out 45acp (fwiw, nuthin out-cycles the CM) it's extremely comfy to shoot IMO and has 4 extra rounds to boot. As to accuracy, I put mine (bought used w/ Meprolite NS and 2-Pierce ext. mags at gunshow for $449+tax) thru it's paces on an official TX DPS CHL target at 21' (the national average firearm used max distance, which stats say is 7-21 feet) and after a couple mags had basically one hole about heart sized, where ones heart should be. After 200 rounds all my rounds were inside the 5 ring, mostly in one big 4-6" hole and yes that included double taps, one-handed fire and more than a few "rapid-fire" warnings from the local range nazis. Plenty adequate IMO. Get the Pierce grip extensions, as they help, making it even more pleasant to shoot. And I agree the two-spring set-up is the reason it's not bad in the recoil department. Mike |

Excellent. Thanks, guys. I just placed an order at a local "toy store" this morning and am trading in an old bolt-gun I haven't fired in years to reduce the *financial* recoil. My 21 is one of the most accurate pistols I own (in my hands, at least), so I'm looking forward to seeing just what its baby brother can do. Field report in a couple of weeks. |
