I need to make a decision this weekend. I am between a G19 and a G36, leaning toward the G36. I did a search of this forum with only two hits. I will pick up the other pistol at a later date. I am familar with both calibers. I cannot locate a G36 to shoot, or a G30 for that matter. The only range with rentals has a limited selection. I would like more information on the G36. I am aware of the early model issues with the G36. Any information or direction would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I've owned one G36 that was completely reliable. I'd never take a G36 over a G19, however.

G30 for the win. Or a 19.

The G36 can be finicky and is not pleasant to shoot. It is made for concealing. If you want a 45 that is somewhat compact and comfortable to shoot take a look at the G30.

As others have said, I would not chose a G36 over the G19.

It seems that I am going to be the minority here.  I say 36.  It is mor comfortable in my hand than the 30 and makes bigger holes than the 19.  The 19 is one helluva gun though.

I've CCWed a G36 in a Crossbreed holster every working day for over a year now.  I've put about 500 rounds down range.  It runs very well, no issues at all, and I don't find it difficult or unpleasent to shoot.  Having said that, it's not a high volumn target rig.  Put a "plus zero" extension on the mag so my little finger has a place to be.  I just like a .45 for a defensive CCW handgun.  Nothing wrong with G19 or 9MM, certainly less recoil and more rounds.  It's just I feel more at ease with a .45 in case, God forbid, I ever have to use it for it's intended purpose.  My best advise it to find one, and compare it to the feel of a G19.  Buy the one that's most comfortable in your hand.

Got a G36 with Trijicon Night Sights and I love this gun since it fits so well in my hand and is very accurate.  I use it every day as a CCW.  Been playing with it by adding an extended slide release, but that didn't work out too well since it would FTF after the 3rd round.  So I just kept the internals stock, but I added a Pearce +1 mag extension and Wolff mag springs and it works now without a hiccup.  I also have a SA XD45c and that gun is a lil bigger (dual stack) than the G36 but I love that gun too.  Ever since I switched from .40 to .45, I love the .45 much better since it can do major damge.  My only gripe is the number of rounds it can hold 7+1 (with Pearce grip extension).  Wish the SF can hold more, but then that's why there's the G30 as the other option.  That's why I carry a spare mag when I conceal, or carry the XD45c since it holds 10+1 using short mags.  Good luck.

I own both.  I carry the G36.  I got the G19 for my wife.

G30 or 19. If the 30 is too thick, try the 30SF. I haven't tried one yet.

My G36 is my primary carry gun. I like it a lot. 6+1 .45 ACP is plenty of ammo for me. I can squeeze off 2 well-aimed shots in about a second, getting excellent results at 25ft and more than acceptable results out to 50ft.  I have no intention of getting into a firefight. If I ever have to fire my gun in self-defense I'll be trying to find the quickest exit of the situation, not trying to be a Rambo.

I use 165gr +P PowR Ball ammo and carry it in a Fobus GL36 paddle holster that can be used on the hip or small of the back.

Also, the G36 fits perfectly in the Sentry Autosafe that I have mounted in the center console of my truck.

I own two G19's, a G36 and a 30. I prefer my G19 overall for just about everything...but the 36 does conceal a bit better, and I actually like shooting it. For whatever reason, i'm more accurate with it than my 19's, at least most of the time.

I pulled the trigger today as they say. Picked up a G19 2nd Gen. Thanks for all the input.
