Who has experience with the G36?
What are your thoughts? Is it a solid pistol? Thanks |

Mine has worked like a champ for the last 6 years and about 1k rounds. I bought it used and it wouldn't consistently make it through a magazine, until I shit canned the Pearce +0 that were on the mags when I got it. Seems in my case the extra leverage provided by the pinkey rest torqued the magazines in the well causing some feeding problems. Not a single problem with the factory base plates. Now if they would just make a full size single stack .45, I'd retire my 1911. |

I've enjoyed mine for the last couple years and few hundred rounds. Good company to have sometimes when you're alone. Mine has been reliable with every hollowpoint and practice round I've put through it with the exception of some flat points I used the day I bought it. May have been because the gun was new but it seemed like the flat rounds hung up on the feed ramp. Very manageable recoil too - much easier to shoot for me than any 9mm, .40, or revolver. Now that the trigger has smoothed up, I can keep all my shots in 4" groups in the head/upper torso.
Definitely try to shoot one before you buy one. I didn't do that but happened to like the gun, but now I'm going to a 21 since I don't CC and like the full grip better. |

I have two 21s and I'm thinking of a 36 for my girl. The 17 I picked up for her is a little large... is the 36 a good choice for the ladies? |

The 36 is about the same size as the 19/23 with the +1 extension, and people say the 19 is a good womens' gun. So with the 36 coming in a little smaller than the 19, or about the same size with an extension, I'd say it's a good womens' gun too. My girlfriend likes my 36 better than the S&W 637 I bought for her but she says it stings her hands (maybe need to work on her grip). She didn't complain about the sting with a Hogue grip on it, though. The grip might actually make it easier for you to transition between the 21 and 36, too. |

Sure - the 36 has somewhat of a questionable reputation from early problems so I like to share my good experience with mine. I always keep it clean and lightly lubricated. It's stock except for adding extension plates to the magazines, a grip channel plug, and the 25 cent trigger job I did to smooth up the action. I did lots of dry fire with it to learn finger placement and trigger reset and it payed off.
Hope the 36 works out for you! |

The G36 was always rumored to be the problem Glock. I think this was mainly due to mags and followers on earlier pistols. My experience with 3 of them I owned has been positive.
The G36 is more sensitive to grip / limp wristing more so than other Glocks due to the lighter slide. It makes a great carry pistol for someone who wants to carry a .45. It is not a pistol I would bring to a match or use for extended range sessions. It's made for packing. I would say any bugs have been worked out of the G36 for quite sometime now and it is an accurate and reliable pistol. |

Bought one from a buddy that wanted to trade it in for a different gun and the store wasn't giving him dick for it. I gave him $325 for it (over $100 more than the GS was going to give him on trade) He had a few hundred rounds through it and I have put 2-3 hundred through it.
I've not experienced one issue with it (even evil lead reloads). I carry it quite often as it is a lot of power in a small, reliable, easy to conceal package. I feel confident it'll go bang when I need it to. |
| So I commandeered a friend's G36 today and took it to the range. Really been considering this gun as my CCW so wanted to see how it shot, especially after reading this thread. Gun is band new really, had about 50 rounds though it before today. Shot about 80 rounds through it today and had 2 malfunctions. First one was a stove pipe, the second was a double feed. Kind of concerning to me since I would like this as a concealed carry weapon. Was shooting 230 grain FMJ, feeding from a +1 mag. Felt like I almost had another malfunction too during one shot, felt like the slide almost didn't want to cycle. I have a G21 that I love and have never had a malfunction with (knock on wood) and it's seen about 1000 rounds through it. Any thoughts on whether the gun being new having anything to do with the 2 mis-feeds I had today with the G36? |

I'm not convinced that the problem I had with mine hiccuping on flat nose rounds wasn't contributed to my grip (first Glock for me). When I started working on my grip, I had no more problems. A few weeks ago, a friend shot it and it jammed two or three times in a row on him - then he set it down. I cleared it and fired the rest of the rounds in the mag with no trouble. This really leads me to think that you have to practice with this pistol a lot to get decent with it, and a lot more to get good with it. But when you do, it's great. |
| Bought a G36 with Pearce +1 Grip Mag extensions. The gun feels nice in my hand, but the Pearce grip extension made the gun fail to feed after the first 4 rounds. I had 7 rounds in the mag, and the FTF was consistent with all of the mags with the Pearce grip after the initial 4 rounds per mag. I guess the mag spring was not strong enough to feed the next cartridge since the Pearce grip releived some of the tension. I recommend to keep the mags stock and you won't have any issues. |
| just picked one up off gunbroker..used in NEW shape..... shot about 50 rounds thur it...very nice... the little spent casing thats in the box in the envelope had 2007 on it, so not too old.... the model 23 was always my favorite glock..now this is... yes it only has 6 rounds, but i think different now days, if I need to use it, chances are Im not getitng into a shoot out and only need 1-2 rounds.. |
