It is an cartridge design to mimic the .45 ACP but with a shorter case.

The purpose behind that is so that manufactures can 'adapt' their 9mm/40 S&W product lines to meet the resurgent interest in .45's.

Otherwise they would be forced to spend some real money to design a new action that will fit the longer .45 ACP cartridge.

I suspect it will fade from the market as it offers buyers nothing over a .45 ACP expect they will have to pay much more for the ammo…

Its Gaston Glocks attempt at "keeping up with the Jones's". Smith & Wesson and Sig both have prorietary calibers and he wanted one too. Other than that, there is really no point to this round.
The Glock 37 holds only 10 rounds. which isn't very much more than a 1911 with an 8 round magazine, and the Glock has a wider grip. The G.A.P. can match energy/velocity of standard pressure .45 ACP rounds of the same weight, but with increased muzzle blast/recoil.  Notice how gun rags only compare standard pressure .45 ACP rounds to the G.A.P. Compare similarly loaded +P 45 ACP rounds to the G.A.P. and there is no comparison...There is no doubt that the G.A.P. will perform well in the field, but there is really no point to buy one over other more availible rounds.
There is nothing a G37 will do that a G22 can't do better.

So the case is shorter? and compared to NON +P its Faster?

I think the 45ACP is a PERFECT round as is.

The military will be switching back soon ? from what ive read.

I would feel safe with just the 230FMJ load  over the 124FMJ

Yes, the G.A.P. is shorter than the ACP and its loaded to higher pressures, so its faster or at worst, even with standard pressure .45 ACP loads. The G.A.P. is just a .45 ACP which has been adapted to fit in a 9mm size handgun.

This round was developed for european countries, where the citizens cannot have any rounds that military has. This round is a big hit overseas and will eventually catch on like the 40 s&w has. L.E. has even started using it. I don't for see it going away any time soon. But to each's own.

I purchased the 45 GAP for ccw. The Glock 38 is the perfect midsize gun to carry and it packs one hell of a punch. The gun isnt bad at all to shoot and $15 dollars for 50rds isnt all that bad when using the gun to carry. There are better, cheaper guns if all you want to do is shoot hundreds of rds at the range.

Depends on the gun.  Barrel length can be a big factor.  I was comparing some RA45T (normal pressure Winchester Ranger 230gr) velocities I measured from my 4" 1911 and found them to be the same as velocities published by Guns & Ammo shooting 45GAP loads from a 4" XD.

I was going to eventually put my measurements online, but never got around to it.  Much like my plans for measured bullet consistencies, video of shooting water jugs with various rounds, etc...

Looks like Georgia State Patrol is going to the 45GAP this Fall.  Maybe price of ammo will go down once a few bigger agencies start adopting this round.  It's an interesting round.  Almost broke down and got a XD45gap, but held off till the XD45acp became available.

Predicting the lottery would be easier, but several big agencies adopted the .41 magnum at one time. Ammo cost stayed high and where is that excellent cartridge today?

Maybe the 45GAP will fare better since it's designed for semi-autos, unlike the 41 magnum, which is used in revolvers.  Personally, I don't see it taking off.
