I'm pretty sure this is going to be my next pistol. I've been looking at two different versions of it and wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

1. As a carry weapon would the 4'' be more practical? too short? accuracy issues?

2.  Any gripes about the stainless steel version?

I'd get the 5" version, I am not a fan of the 4" [Champion] model at all. The SS version is fine, get the GI and not the WW2 version, it has a few things that are worth the extra $$.

I would not carry a 1911 without a flared ejection port.

Just my $0.02

My mistake, the GI has the flared ejection port, the WW2 does not.

Do you have a link to the WWII model? I see the GI .45, Mil-Spec, Loaded, etc. on their web site. I thought that the GI .45 was made to WWII M1911A1 specs...

Ok, I am wrong AGAIN!

I had the mil spec, it had the flared and lowered ejection port.  My buddy had a GI which did not.  The WWII was a special run of the GI, IIRC.

It's been too long

Gotcha...you had me going there for a minute. I have a Mil-Spec model and can easily recommend it to anyone. The Mil-Spec also better sights and a stainless steel barrel.

The grip is pretty wide on the double stack version...you may want to take a test drive before you buy.

1. The shorter you go, the less potential reliability is there. In an IWB holster, that 1 inch isn't going to make much difference.

2. Stainless steel is shiny.

The Mil-Spec has the basic upgrades: a trigger you can manage, sights you can see, and a dehorning job. It also has a flared magazine well, lowered ejection port, and a better fit and finish.

Not to hijack, but will that accept P14 magazines?

The Mil-Spec guns with a NM serial number prefix also had 1 piece barrels and a stainless steel bushing, as I recall.
