Must be, I had a blue one and I thought they were the best grips ever made on a factory gun. But I've also seen many of them with Houges, or other aftermarket ones. It's probably a "love-it or hate-it" deal. That's the nice thing about wheel guns, you can actually change the grips to something you like. I sold mine long ago because it was too heavy to carry, great shooter though. I don't think you can wear one out. I'm still trying to wear out my Speed-six that used to be a range rental gun, and it's probably going to outlive me. The only thing odd about my GP-100 is it was really sensitive to .38spec or .357 mag for accuracy. You could really tell the difference in accuracy with one or the other. .357 drilled one big hole, but the .38's spread out. More than any Colt or Smith. Could have just been the loads too. If I had to take a gun someplace harsh with no support, any Ruger will be high on the list. Ross |
| Mine a 6", its my favorite gun I own. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-2/657161/gp1000.jpg |
| I have had my 4" for over 10 years now and it is by far my favorite gun. The factory grips were nice, but I did switch them out for a Hogue and it is a lot more comfortable for extended range sessions with magnum loads. I do wish I had bought the stainless, but I was a stupid 21 year old kid back then and the extra $50 or so would have cut into my beer budget too much... |

I have got a 6" full shroud in stainless. This is my truck gun. I carry 2 speedloaders with it, and if I run out, I can beat the living daylights out of someone with it. The only gun I have that is tougher than it, is my 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk 44. I have owned several Smith wheelguns, but I always end up going back to Ruger. I don't like his politics, but he knew how to make a good, dependable gun |

I bought a used one from a guy I work with today that wanted a Glock 17 and I gave him the $250.00 he wanted for it. He originally bought it in 1987 and said he only shot it a few times and it looks like it. It is stainless 4" and appears pretty much like new. It came with 350 rounds of .38 special, 2 speed loaders, Uncle Mike's holster, like new original box with all paperwork. It feels better in my hand than the S&W model 19 Combat with target sights I purchased in 1985 when going through the Michigan Law Enforcement Officer training course for police officer certification. I never shoot revolvers much these days but I didn't think the GP100 was all that bad of a deal for what seems to be a solid stainless gun with adjustable sights. I figure the pistol came to about $220.00 if you subtract $30.00 for the value of the ammo and 2 speed loaders. I did get a S&W 686 some years ago as collateral when I loaned a coworker $175.00 and after not getting repaid I made the mistake of selling it for the loan amount, should have kept the revolver. |
| I have a 6" GP100 and its a great shooter. IF you want a great CCW wheel gun the SP101 is a workhorse. Eats all kinds of .357 and .38 with no problem. If you want to go .44 look no further then a Redhawk DA. On the GP I reecomend Hogue grips for a comfortable time at the range. |

I have one as of today. 4" stainless, adj sights. It feels GOOD. It was about two months old and I got it from a guy who decided he wanted 6" barrel. I have wanted one for some time, but it was at the bottom of my list. However I was talking with a guy at a gunshop recently and he said Ruger has announced a price increase, so I was REALLY not expecting to get one any time soon. I got the natural "buyers remorse" but that only lasted during the drive back to work. Locked my office door and dry fired it until the attack passed. Trigger feels good. I had expected it to be a little rough, but I guess my friends time at the range smoothed out any problems, if there were any. I bought a box of American Eagle 158 grain to shoot this weekend. I have all sorts of .38 at home which will be rotated out as well. Any suggestions as to your favorite loads? Thanks to bub75 and all others who replied to my post over in general discussion last week. You convinced me (I'm a pushover). |

callgood, No problem, my man. Glad to help. I just hope you like yours as much as I like mine. If something happened and I could only own 1 handgun and CCW wasn't an option, I honestly don't know whether I would choose my GP100 or my Glock 21. It's that good. Now to scrape up the $$$ for reloading supplies for .357. Buying factory ammo is killing me! Bub |
