How is everyone's finish holding up? I have an unfired G27 and that has been in and out of a Nanotech a few times and worn in a mic holster around the house and it looks like there has been some scuffing alongside the top. I thought it was just dirty, at first, but upon closer inspection, the finish has actually worn off. I'm somewhat flabbergasted to be quite honest. I didn't think it would happen so soon. I've tossed it in my sock drawer a few times, but it's not like it has been rolling around in the dirt and gravel.

the top phosphating has always come off pretty easy on corners but stops at a point.  the rust prevention treatment (what they used to call Tenifer) actually penetrates the metal and does not wear off...

What ever finish Glock is using now is really poor compaired to other guns like Kimber, Colt and Springfield. Their anodized or blue holds up much better than Glocks. I've even thought about though abot having one of my late Gen 3's refinished but don't know what would make a good finish. NP3??

The new finish sucks ass!

Note, coat the slide with some gun oil & let it sit, then wipe off the excess.  Repeat at every cleaning. This seems to help with wear.

Even HKs have the black coating wear off.

No shame in a tool with a few scuffs.

Also.  SHOOT IT ALREADY.  You're carrying an untested weapon?

I've carried my Gen4 G23 every day since I bought it 6 months ago. And I sweat plenty in the summer heat in TX. It still looks same as the day I bought it.

Yes but do you practice drawing from your holster?  That will accelerate wear. My gen 4 G22 looks like crap after 6 months of use drawing & carrying.
The fact it wears isn't a problem for me, I understand it's a tool & will wear. The rate at which it does compared to the older black finish of my G17 & G27 is my problem. Those guns have been used & abused much more then my carry gun & look new still after 3 years.

No, I'm not carrying it yet. I'm waiting on the license. I was just shocked that wear was already appearing after such light handling.

The finish on the Gen3 I purchased in April 2004 was definitely superior to this one. I just wanted to make sure I was not crazy and that other people had observed the same in their Gen4 pistols.

I don't do very much draw practice. I do use a kydex holster about 90% of the time and it hasnt marred the finish, other than a little scratch on the slide lock. But in my experience, every gun i've used as a CCW has had a little holster wear. My experience with my Gen4 hasnt been any different from my older Gen3 or my HKs. Not a hint of rust on any of them (which is all i really care about).

Fuzzy is right. I always use Tetra Gun Lube abd I coat teh outside with it nd it has reduced teh amount of ware a lot. I have a late Gen 3 21 That I coat the barrel with Tetra Lube and have fired over 600 rounds of ball and the barrel shows no ware on teh blue at all. This stuff is teh best lube I've ever found.

I use that on my rifles. Good stuff.  I think it's a bit thick in the hand guns though.  I will use it on my 1911 though cause it's not shot much. Glocks need so little lube all I use is your basic Hopes oil.

It's funny.  I bet you could ask a bunch of people about the different finishes Glock has used and you'd get people that hated one and loved the other for many different reasons.

There was the early Parkerized finish that didn't hold up well on the barrel.

There was the finish you're describing with the 2004 Glock that was too slick but could take abuse.

Etc.

I might be in the minority, but I've always liked the look of a Glock with some wear marks. It didn't take long to give our duty Glocks some character after we got new ones issued.

Yeah, I get that. I just didn't expect to see wear so soon or after what I considered to be very light handling.

I just picked up a Gen4 G17 today. It still has the weird factory copper lube all over the inside. I may take it for a spin later.

Yes it does. And all I ask is that the finish be black not fucking grey!!!!

The newer ones seem to wear faster than older ones.

I don't mind the new finish. It is slightly rougher, and that helps when racking/releasing the slide.
