Is there any difference between the two in terms of strength, durability, and longevity? I know the gen 2's don't have finger grooves or 2 pins but is that it? Thanks for any information!

The short answer is, I have had zero issues with gen 2 and prefer no finger grooves.

The .40 Gen2s do have the 3rd pin (except for a few very early on); it's just the 9mm Gen2s that are 2-pin (and nothing wrong with that). I would say the only issue with the Gen2 Glocks is that there aren't more of them floating around for sale.
