Have I told you all how much I like having a beavertail on my Glock? (Bloody pics are pre-beavertail).

Um.. Hand goes below the beaver tail?

Haven't had this issue myself.

Those pics are pre-beavertail. I'm saying I actually love the beavertail, as I no longer get bloody hands from shooting.

My 22 did that to me. Sucked, the beaver tail looks like a great solution. What brand?

Glock. You can now buy the backstrap kits for Gen 4's.

How do you hold the damn thing... i have been sitting here for about 5min trying to figure out a way to hold a Glock in a manner that would cause that.  It isn't like you have fat hands that are going to have folds of flesh bulging out in every direction.  I seriously can't grip it in a way that would cause contact with the slide with that area of my hand.

When it happened to me it was because I got the web of my hand just a shade higher than usual when I drew the pistol. My normal grip had very little space between my hand and the slide, I'd usually have black smudges after shooting where it touched my hand.

I get my hand hard under the tang and kinda push down with my fingers against the grooves.

I have fairly large hands and use the largest backstrap that Glock makes to facilitate quicker finger placement on the trigger. This decreases the amount of tang available to grip, which means the webs of my hand sort of 'muffin top' (for lack of a better term) perilously near the slide.

When I fire, I don't even feel the slide hitting my hand because it's so fast, but it always bleeds.

Adding to that, when drawing from concealment, your grip isn't always 'perfect', and it can ride a bit higher than usual.

I did that with my 19 during a defensive pistol class. My grip was a little too high during the draw, caught my skin. Didn't hurt to bad and no blood but the skin was stuck under the slide. I racked the slide back to clear it and that's when the blood started. Finished the last two hours of the class and my pistol was a sticky nasty mess.

Never happened before or after, but it happens.

Only time a Glock bit me was a G27. The full size, compact, and G29/30 frames do not do this.
Yesterday, I took my new G19 Gen4 to the range with the medium beavertail backstrap and I really didn't care for it.

As a side note, my first shot with the G19 was a failure to eject...but 164 rounds after that were flawless. I'll take a 1 shot break-in period.

I haven't had that trouble with any of my gen 3 guns.  I shoot with a high thumbs forward grip.  That said  I do run a medium beavertail backstrap on my gen 4 34.

Yeah, I had the same problem with my Gen 3 G19, but I love the beavertail on my Gen 4 G17, no more tracks...

Yep. I really like the beavertail back strap on my G34. I can get a faster more consistent grip with the beavertail.

I didn't have a problem with getting bit before the beavertail though.

For those of you who managed to install one of the beavertail backstraps...how the hell did you get it to fit? I can't get both sides to line up long enough to get the pin through Did you heat up the backstrap in some hot water first or something, because mine just does not want to fit....

Try putting the pin through before snapping the bottom in place.

Hmm I considered that but wasn't sure if that would work...I'll give that a try, thanks!

It was really a pain. I put a the punch through to hold it in place, and then just tried to get the pin in through there. I realize that's not very helpful

Yep, my 34 chewed a pretty good hole in my hand after 800 rounds in a class.  The Glocks I use frequently now all have some sort of beavertail, mostly Grip Force Adapters.

I just sold off my HK pistols and replaced them with Glocks after I discovered the Gen-4 beavertail.  I had the same problem but no mas.  Loving the Glock vs. HK decision.

The bottom clips on first, so there's no way to do it from top-down...

I wound up lining up one side, putting the pin in as far as I dare, then really pushing the other side together while I pressed the whole back end down on a block of wood to force in the pin the rest of the way. Whaddya know, it worked! And I didn't even destroy anything!

And then I realized the "large" backstrap felt like I was holding a 2x4, so I had to swap it out for the medium, which fits just right

Thanks for the input everyone!

Every beavertail or regular backstrap I have installed has went on pin first then snap bottom in, gives it a hinge effect.
