Just looking at the G23-gen5 40cal…. Is there any love for this model anymore!??? Anyone carrying the 40cal gen5?

Were the old rumors of unsupported G22/23 barrels in the gen1-4’s true?

Does the gen5 G22/23 barrels have more chamber / cartridge support??

They're great guns!  I'll be adding one. I'll look more into the support part.

Plenty of love to go around... Took the G23 and G27 to the range last Friday.
Had a blast with both felt like a threesome but with way more recoil!

I would never buy one, but I'm not a fan of the 40 anymore.  With a glut of cheap Gen 3 and Gen 4's, by when it shooted enough to reap any benefits of the Gen 5.

Plus with the wider slide, my old holsters would not fit.

It makes sense if you are new to the platform or are planning on shooting a TON of 40 ammo.

I’ve got 18k rounds through my G22.5 MOS. The Gen 5 .40 cals are on a different level than previous generations. Too little too late in my opinion though. I’m kinda hoping they’ll release a G35.5 at some point. I still have a lot of .40 cal to shoot. But they’ll never be anything but range toys for me.

No warm & fuzzy feelings here for .40cal........

40 is pretty much dead, no advantage over 9mm.

Regardless of the improvements to a Glock 23 Gen. 5, the caliber isn't going to make it a hot seller.

I still have a Glock 23 Gen. 2 that has never failed me (except with some handloads that wouldn't fit in the chamber with anything short of a hammer).

I've still got a gill-serration RTF frame G22, but it is almost never out of the safe. The only reason I even have it is I came into a shitload of G22 mags. Enough to make it worth adding a G22 to the collection. But it sucks compared to my G17s. So sorry, not much .40 love here either.

I have 40 stacked quite deep and have a pile of Gen 2, 3, and 4 G22, G23, and G27s. Plenty of love for .40 caliber and Glock 23s. But I haven’t yet bought a Gen 5 40 caliber Glock because of holster commonality. I’m content with the older generations and haven’t felt the need to ‘upgrade.’

Probably the best .40 ever made,  but .40 is dumb

I’ve been tempted to get a G23.5 MOS and convert it to 357 Sig.

Is there a .357 barrel that will work in a gen 5 23?

I have been carrying variations of .40 pistols since the mid 90's and while I debated going all-in with 9mm in 2019, I am glad I rode it out and stayed with .40. I have a G22.4 and a G22.5 and man, the G22.5 is a game changer IMO. I am looking into a G23.5, but I still CC a 43X (for now).

My Dept and City both issued Glock 22s for about 20 years

We combined the agencies about 15 years ago to total 1800 sworn

I went to Detectives around 2001 and haven’t had a uniform on since.

Most of that time I carried a variety of personal guns daily with gen 3&4 Glock 23s being most common.

I became firearms instructor in 1999, shot competition my whole career and would take classes once a year.

I say all this to not exaggerate around 10K or more in .40 fired a year from Glocks mostly the G23

Never had an issue and reliability was near flawless.

Around 2004 I was in my first fatal OIS using a G23 and .40 is extremely effective if you do your part.

I’ve locked over the gen5 G23 and it seems to have been reengineered with the slide thickness being the most noticeable

I still have a couple gen 4 Glocks in .40 though we switches over to 9mm Glocks over ten years ago.

If it fits your needs I’d say go for it because I have nothing but faith in the platform and cartridge.

All the Gen5 .40's are GREAT guns, the slide is beefier than before and it soaks up recoil quite well.   I have the Gen5 G27 + G23 + G22...all are awesome.

I was getting bulged cases out of my G23.2 about thirty years ago, and so were some other shooters. But I haven't seen any bulged cases since then. I heard that the ammo manufacturers went to thicker brass near the case head to allow for relieved feed ramps on Glocks and other brand pistols.
.40 is my go-to caliber but I shoot others. I held a G23.5 in a gun shop. The slide is a bit wider, but the pistol didn't feel any heavier than my older G23s.  The G23.5s are said to have less recoil "snap" than earlier generations.

I bought a Gen 5 G22 and G23.  Even with the wider slide, my Gen 5 G23 will still fit in the leather holster I had for previous generation Glocks.  It's a little bit more snug, but works.  Kydex or other more rigid holsters may not.  Try it and see.

While I typically carry a 9mm, I like having options.  9mm was among the least available ammo out there during previous shortages, so having a less common caliber available is a good option to have.  40 does deliver more energy on target, shot for shot, than 9mm.  Nearly all ammo is currently designed to meet the FBI protocol for penetration.  But 40 will still expand more than 9mm leaving a bigger wound path and it has more energy coming out of the muzzle while still providing reasonable capacity in the magazine.

With respect to the supported, or not, chamber.  The gen 5 seems to show a lot more support than my older Gen 3 (bought 1998 ish).

I guess I might need to go buy a few Gen 5 40s.

Slight tangent but are there Gen 5 .357s out yet?  If I’m going to need new holsters I want a Gen 5 G32C.

I have a Gen. 3 G23 with RTF2 frame and frying pan finish that I love. I never saw the need to upgrade to a Gen. 5. Plus it wouldn't fit my holsters. I also have a 357 Sig barrel for it. I say save some money and get an earlier Gen. G23.They are cheap and tons of holsters already out there.

ETA: I had a kaboom with an early G27 due to unsupported chamber, but my Gen. 3 G23 has a fully supported chamber and has eaten thousands of rounds.

I'm a big 40S&W fan and strongly prefer it over 9mm. However, I also prefer the 22 and 27 over the 23. If the 23 fits your hand well go for it though. It's good to go.

The 23 just doesn't fit my hand as well. It's also still too big to easily conceal imo. So if I want something easy to conceal, the 27 is the clear winner. If I want something to shoot at the range, the 22 fits my hand better and I'm more accurate with it. The 23 just kind of falls in the middle and is usable for both, but not really great at either imo.

My Gen 3 RTF2 Puerto Rico trade in G23 is a gun I love to hate. It’s such a laser but it eats my shirts and I swear trying to wear a hole into my kidney.

My RTF2 G22 doesn’t do that.

Now I’m definitely going down to get a Gen 5 G23 and/or G22 today.

Thanks for posting.

I'm carrying my Gen. 4 G23 as I type. Also, have a Sig P226 in .40 in my safe.

G23 g3 with factory threaded barrel (metric/left hand threads), factory tall sights, neon green front post. Never upgraded to night sights. Fits all my holsters for G19 g4. I love mine.
