Anyone know what might cause a G17 to double? This is happening to someone I know and they think it might be due to a trigger being too light and almost bump firing.
Personally I think it has to be the gun. Maybe need new springs? What used parts might cause a double? |

First of all, it must be detail stripped, and examined as to whether it has aftermarket parts in it, or other devices that could make the trigger lighter than stock. i.e., 3.5 Connector, heavier Trigger Spring, reduced power Firing Pin Spring, etc. etc.
As it is, a good detail strip and examination is warranted, as the pistol should NOT be doing this. And hell, could inadvertently get someone in trouble. |
mines a 2nd gen 17. No modifications what so ever.

Someone may have gotten a little carried away with their .25 cent trigger job. Replace parts till it stops,if you have a half cover plate,you can peek in there,and make sure the trigger bar is making good contact with the striker lug. If it were me,and the pistol was used,just so I knew what I had ,I would just buy a new,striker spring/striker/trigger bar/connector/and trigger spring. edit:and a recoil spring |

I suppose it could be due to lack of engagement surface between the Firing Pin lug and the rearmost extension of the Trigger Bar, possibly due to a chipped or worn part on either end. 2/3rds engagement is the minimum standard, according to the Glock Armorers Manual.
