My friend has a Glock 19 he installed XS big dot sights on, he also uses machine gun lube lightly on the slide.  He has fired the pistol 750 rounds and the slide has stopped locking back after the last shot is fired.  Those are the only two things that make the gun non stock so I am adding them.  we have used 10 and 15 round mags, and glock 17 mags without success.  We have tried everything from blazer shit ammo all the way up to maxed out homeloads, and the gun fired perfectly in every way but wont stay back after the last shot.........
Any Ideas would be much appreciated.

Where's your thumb at when shooting?

It doesn`t seem to be a magazine issue since you used several different ones. I would check the slide stop real good. Take the slide off,  insert an empty magazine and see if you can tell if/why it isn`t engaging the slide stop and forcing it up. It could be bent or broken in some way I suppose. If you take it out make sure it`s put back the right way as shown in this picture.

LAZARUS:  I wish it was that simple.  This is his first 19, ive owned 7 glocks over 4 years, shoot idpa etc.   I considered his thumb position and tried it myself and it fails to consistently lock back.  It does lock back every third empty mag or so but it is purely randomn.   Thanks

BORU:  Ill try to take a look at his pistol tonight if he is around.  Do you think the addition of the sights or machine gunners lube would have this negative effect?   Thanks

No it should not be the lube or the sights. The first 750 rnds the slide locked ok? Does this only happen when shooting, or can you not get it to lock back when you have an empty mag in and manually pull the slide to the rear?

It was locking back inconsistently during the first 750 rounds.  When the gun is empty and a mag is in it always locks back, every time regardless of type of mag used.  I thought maybe the blazer ammo used wasnt loaded up enough so ive tried +p and some +p+ loads and it has still been inconsistent at best.

Hmm, a new slide stop and spring might fix your problem, they should run you $5-$8. Other than that I can't think of anything else that could be wrong

I would try a new slide release lever.

I've got a G19 with about 2500 rds thru it and I just got a G26 and the tension is significantly different between the 2.  The G26 feels like it has a harder resistance on the spring, although I've never had any slide problem.
