I've owned and shot a G19 for the last 3 years and I love it. No issues whatsoever. I trust it. I've always wanted a G22 for a dedicated bed-side piece so yesterday I put money down on one (Gen 3) at my LGS. I got home and started digging around on the web and started to see a lot of chatter about Glocks, batches of duty pistols, having reliability problems...specifically FTE's, stovepipes, brass to the face, etc. I just assumed that a Glock is a Glock is a Glock. Torture tested and trusted by LEO's and militaries around the world. There couldn't be reliability problems right?

Well now I'm a little nervous about my decision to buy a new G22. I tried searching this board a bit but I had trouble finding much.  Could any of you gunsmiths, armorer's, LEO's, or anyone in the know shed any light on these .40 S&W Glocks having problems? Are these widespread problems? Or are these issues isolated to specific batches of pistols? I've seen a lot more written about the Gen 4's but still...I'd like to hear what anyone has to offer. Not sure if I should pay this thing off and run some ammo thru it myself to find out or if I should put my money on something else before I get too far along.

Thanks in advance.

LEO and armorer here, The 22 is an excellent weapon.  Go for it and shoot the crap out of it !

Just bought my first pistol a gen 4 g22 for the extra mag in these times. Put a 100 rounds of the cheap Walmart Winchester ammo trough it without any issues. I saw some of the posts I assume you saw and was a little nervous before I bout as well. Now I have no concerns. I know I had my heart set on a glock for some time before I got it. I saw the m&p 40 the first time when I went to get my glock and while I was interested in some of the extras it seemed like I would be adding complications for features I wouldn't use. I am flag I picked my g22

The first and only Glock I have is a G22 Gen4. I was not happy with the European style grip but that was easily and inexpensively fixed with a Grip Force Adaptor. I also bought a Lone Wolf 40:9 conversion barrel for it and some older preban 9mm magazines. My G22 Gen4 has been 100% reliable set up both as a .40 and as a 9mm and for a gun that goes bang eacj and every time you pull the trigger I am happy with it.
I have not been able to shoot it as accurately as I can shoot my 1911's, Browning Hi-Power or my revolvers but for a close rnage defensive gun that shoot every time it fills the bill. No problems in that regard at all....<><....:)

P.S. - I have been looking and calling around and trying to get a G30s and a G30 Gen4 blue label but cannot find one in my state. It seems other states have them but I have been told by several distributors out of state they cannot ship a blue label gun out of thier state(?)...I will continue my quest. I am satisfied with my Glock 22 enough to want to buy a couple more. Even for the short time I have been a Glock owner/shooter I also wish they would make a single stack 9mm compact. I also wish Glock themselves had an option of a safety that blocked the striker/firing pin!! There are aftermarket companies that offer a Glock safety, Glock should also offer it as an option....<><....:)

Buy it. Most of the BTF has been in the gen. 4 9mm models

I'm no Glock expert, but I do know that the brass to the face issue is just an extractor problem. I also believe that it's just on the Gen 4's, but don't quote me on that. If you replace the extractor with an aftermarket part, then the problem disappears. Not sure if theres a way to fix the factory extractor to solve the problem, or if the only way is to go aftermarket. Like I said, not a Glock expert...

Almost all of brass to face issues have been with 9mm. The Sheriff's dept I have worked for several years use 40 cal Glocks. I have a early Gen 3 that has over 10,000 rds thru and has been perfect. I also have owned a couple 27s that run great(although one did need a little breaking in of about 50 rds.) The Security Company my father in law owns also issues Glock 22s mostly late Gen 2s or early Gen 3 they have all worked great. One of the Gen 3s has over 60,000 rounds thru adn other than holster wear it still looks and functions great. The only thing w have changed on it has been the recoil spring assembly. The 40 is not for everyone and I would not recommend it nor a 45 for a new shooter because tjhey do have more recoil than a 9mm but to me the 40 is far and away my favorite pistol round. The sheriff's dept I work for has had excellent real world results with the 40 and one shot fight stoppages. Also another big plus for all 40s is ammo is more readily available especially in times like this than anyother pistol caliber. Just go into a local Wal Mart that sells ammo. You will be lucky to see any 9 or 45 but if it is like it is around here the shelves will be full of 40s.

I also understand the problem revolves around the MIM extractor and mostly in the 9mm. Change it out and the problem seems to go away. I do not like MIM in or near my guns. It is a money saver for them but until it is gotten right I don't want any part of it. Including the MIM gas keys that were problematic on the LMT AR's....<><....:)

Your new Gen3 G22 with new version mags will be GTG. Most of the .40 issues were with weapon lights attached before they updated the mags to fix the problem. I've had 8 Gen3 Glock .40s over the past three years and they've all be 100%, including with lights attached.

the g22 is my favorite glock and I have owned several glocks. I had a gen3 22 and it ran great the couple hundred rds I put through it. I now have a gen 4 and its just got about 75 rds through it. im putting 150 next time I go to the range. I assume it will do great. I love the 40 rd in the 22 cause you get a full size grip. pretty easy too control.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I'm feeling a lot better about picking up the G22. Funny thing, the easiest way to get Glock mags right now is to buy the whole pistol. Crazy. Anyway, can't wait to go shoot some .40

Much appreciated everyone.

The one issue that seems to have traction is that the gen 3s tend to have feeding issues when a light is attached.

Love my gen 4.  great gun.
