I am thinking about changing to a G30sf from a 1911 compact. Please share your experiences with this model. How does it compare (recoil, accuracy..ect)? Thanks

The G30 is going to be far more reliable then the 1911 especially a compact 1911. How do I figure this? I have owned 5 1911's(some compact and some full size from Springfield, Para and even Les Baer) and not a single one could make it through a mag without a malfunction of some kind. I really want a reliable 1911 but I have been unable to find one. The g30 is also very accurate.

I chose to use my 30SF in a GSSF match over a 17, 19, and 21. It's the one I shoot the best - well maybe it's tied with the 19. It's so natural, it's unnatural.

ETA: I also have a Colt Gold Cup. Never a hiccup with it over 15+ years. But I'd rather practice with what I carry.

G30 is tough to beat.

reliable, light, no sharp edges, and 11 rounds.

The G30 is far superior IMHO

I want to go BACK to Glock but want to keep the 45 cal. I used to have a G23 and just did not like how thick it was. Did not know about the 30sf and carried a 1911 both in the military and in LE. It just seemed more natural to me but I am finding the need to go back to Glock for all the reasons you all know!

My 22 yr old son has 30SF that he carries on a regular basis in a Crossbreed ITWB holster and he loves both of them.    It is alot of fun to shot, it is accurate and reliable.

If you think the 23 was thick, wait until you try on the 30.

Yep that hot 2-3 millimeters is staggering.

The G30 is a very soft shooting 45. I had a G30SF but eventually traded it for a XD45 Tactical.

The G30SF was flawless. One issue was if you had a fully loaded mag and one in the chamber and pulled the slide back, the chambered round would lock up with the top round in the magazine. I had to literally yank/slam the slide back to cycle the next round this way. Why would I do this? Well if the first round didn't go boom then the usual malfunction routine of tap rack bang goes into effect. With the G30SF, this was not an easy process. Even firing the G30 with a full mag and one in the chamber caused more muzzle flip on the first shot. This is not just my G30 as many other 30 owners experience the same thing. I've owned many different brands of guns in 45,9mm,380 etc and never had this problem. BTW, this happened with four different 10rd mags and two 9rd mags.

The mags are also ridiculous to load and many many rounds are needed to have them soften up just a tad bit. I cut 2 coils off each mag spring and it was still harder to load than any other high capacity magazine out there. The first time I bought it I could only get 9rds in each 10rd mag. I then put the Glock loading tool on top of each mag and put a clamp on from end to end and had it sit there for a few days and I was just barely able to get the 10th round in. This has nothing to do with hand/arm strength either. Its just how these mags are.

I eventually decided to sell it since it was not able to be loaded to capacity and the fact it was thicker than I like a carry pistol to be. I just use my G19 for winter carry now and G26 for summer.

The G30 is a well made gun with amazing accuracy and flawless function. I bought it for winter carry and it just ended up not fitting the bill for me. BTW, I have a PA I use quite often incase you noticed what state I reside in.

I bought the SF 30 and it was still a little thick for me.  I had a grip reduction from gripreductions.com (no way affiliated just a happy customer) and now it feels like a G19.  Shoots great, very accurate.  It is my daily CC weapon in a crossbreed supertuck or a comptac Ctac.  Very comfortable.  When I feel really wild I carry it with G 21 mags and can still conceal it.  I think you would be very happy with the 30.

Well I think I am convinced to switch over to the 30sf! I have carried a 36 in the past so I do not think I will mind the 30sf. Now I just need to sell my 1911

Know that the 36 is as slim as the 9mm Glocks in the slide and thinner than any other Glock in the frame, where the G30 is bigger than the 9mms in slide and frame thickness/height. There will be a significant difference in feel when wearing IWB.

Here is a G19 and G30 side by side. Since the G36 is even slimmer in the grip than the 19, the difference is more than you think. IMO Glock can and should reduce the thickness of all their 45acp models since most manufactures can easily do it and have been for years. The SF series is not enough and since people have reported G36 slides working on 30 frames, I think Glock needs to take notice and make it standard.

as much as i love my Glock 21SF, i have to agree with this. i would really like to see Glock build a compact 45 pistol with a model 36 slide and a frame that accepts double-stack mags (similar to the G30 but with a slight reduction in thickness) - so basically, something that combines the best features of both the 30 and 36... like the slim profile of the 36 slide but the double-stack mag capacity of the 30.

I have both sizes and if you carry them IWB the difference is very noticeable to me. My g29 feels like a block of 2x4 compared to the g19. Both have vm2 holsters. The slide is nearly 1/8 inch thicker and the grip is noticeably thicker as well. I don't carry the 29 except possibly hunting and just don't consider it a cc gun for me. Some may be comfortable carrying a pistol that big, not me.

i think the 45/10mm series glocks may be the thickest, largest gripped pistols on the market!
