I'd like some opinions of the G34 from owners, previous owners, or those who have shot one. This is the 9mm "practical" model. A pic would be nice, too. |

M4-guy, What's you intended use? Carry, Paper punching, Duty, Competition, all the above? Depending on your own needs, it might be the answer you're looking for. I had a 34 for a while. It didn't seem to add much to my competition shooting considering I can add the extended slide stop, mag release, and 3.5# connector to my 19. I decided it had to go since it wasn't particulary well suited to carry which is the main priority of my pistols. FWIW, it was very accurate when shooting for groups. YMMV. Sly |

Nice gun, plenty accurate for most uses, very reliable, balances nicely with more weight forward than the G17, etc. Probably best for range use or open carry but I have friends outside the US who use them for both on duty / open carry as well as off duty / CCW use and they manage to hide them well enough...extra barrel length is easier to hide than a longer frame / butt when using an IWB holster. I have a G35 and like it a lot. The G34 is on my "want" list for later this year since I no longer have any full capacity mags for the G17 / 34 series guns and don't wish to pay the higher prices to get any right now for a gun I would use mostly only for "play". I don't think you will be sorry if you get one, but you might also look at the XD Tactical as well...very nice gun, 10 round .40 cal mags will work with 15 rounds of 9mm (per board members who are doing this currently, not just heresay) and if not accustomed to the unique Glock grip, you might prefer the XD's frame shape to the Glock. Lots of guys here praise the XD, and while I prefer the Glock, I have no gripes with the XDs either. |

Thanks for the replies. I plan to use it for plinking and home defense, no carry. I might try some competitive shooting with it. I already have full capacity mags (17rd) that I bought for my 19 a while back. Recoil is supposed to be softer than shorter 9mm's, so it could be a gun my wife could use at range. I'll have to rent one the next time I go to the range. Unless I really don't like the way it shoots (which I don't expect), I'll probably get one soon. Thanks again! |

Very happy with my '34. Everybit as reliable and effective as the venerable 17, just with a little more extended capability. It will make a fine practice and HD weapon M4-guy. P.S. Since it's already a large full sized pistol, I put on a factory +2 mag extender(actually fit +3) on the 17 rd mag. 20+1 Ranger hollowpoints in a proven combat platform is quite remarkable. The only improvement I see could be done is the sights. Put some night glows on and you're good to go. |
| mine wasn't as accurate as i expected and it didn't like my ndf hicaps. the extra muzzle weight allowed me to do mag dumps with it; recoil was minimal. adjustable sights absolutely suck- your eye lines up the outer profile, not the inner part. i bought it new, and sold it for more than i paid. if i found a good deal on a g35 down the road, i'd pick one up, so i'm not really recommending against one. however, you gotta ask if the price over a g17 is really worth it. |

I'm very partial to my 35. I added decent sights (green front/red rear) and haven't had the need to do anything further. The one huge advantage I see the 34 having over the 35 is that you can shoot a lot more for the same money. If you're looking for a recreational gun I don't think you could do much better. Load up some 125gr +P's and you've got a great defensive piece, too. I don't think you'll regret buying a 34. |

i've had my 34 for almost a year now... amazing handgun... i'd recomend getting some good target-ish sights such as the heinie... my metrolight are a little too big for what the gun is capable of... great gun... i trust it dearly... 9mm all the way... i carry my weapon in a 'thy' holster (sorry the spelling i'm tired)... and i don't notice its even there... if i were to carry it on my belt i have the roto holster by fobus and i can carry it concealed with a large sweatshirt/jacket/coat... but... i'd get the 17 if i were you... |

I picked up my G34 today from my dealer. I bought it used, but except for some slight external wear on the barrel and chamber, it could easily pass for new. My Surefire X200 fit perfectly, almost like they were made for each other. I hope to shoot it in a few weeks. Once I'm convinced it's completely reliable, it'll be my primary home defense handgun. Thanks to all who replied! |
