I am currently working on paying off my last pistol purchase (S&W 1911), and I am already thinking ahead to the next one. ARFCOM has created a monster...![]() Right now, I work a part time job with which my ID from there will allow me to buy any model new Glock Pistol from our local LEO distributor for around $400. I may loose the job due to consolidation in the next couple of months, so I want to go ahead with the purchase. My current ammo stores mainly include 45 and 9mm. Both in the thousands of rounds category. My problem is, I would like to get a 40 caliber. I am wavering between an Glock 17, 19, 22 or 23. I know I really should get the 9mm, but I think about the extra punch of the 40. By the way the Gk 21 is out. Frame is just too big for my hand. This pistol will not be used for CCW. I know there will always be cheap 9mm around (shtf situation and all) and I am worried about the stocking cost of several thousand rounds of 40 ammo. Help....what would you get and why? |

If you have .45 rounds stored, I'm assuming that you have a .45 someplace...I'd go with the G19 since you have an ammo stored in 9mm. Why spend the extra money for additional ammo in a different caliber. I've also been looking around for a Glock; seems like hardly anyone is selling their G19, but I see a lot of G23s for sale. I've concluded that the G19 is in favor with a lot of shooters. I've decided to go with a G19 for my Glock. |

Just remember, you're never going to be satisfied. You'll get the .40 and think, damn, maybe I should have gotten a 10mm. It has even more power in the same magazine capacities. Then once you get the 10mm, you'll want a .380 or .32 mouse gun. Then you'll want a carbine in 7.62x39mm and then you'll want an AR in .223. Then you'll want a .308. 9 or .40, either will work fine with a good shot. |

VBC, I am already way ahead of your list you gave. 6 AR's, and 2 AK's just to mention a few. Like I said, when I found this site, I got hooked.... I think I am leaning toward the 17 or 19. I really don't want to have to invest in another caliber, even though the 40 is interesting. Length doesn't matter so I may go with the 17. Now, all black or OD? |
Not unless you buy high dollar Cor-Bon, or roll your own.. Most commercial 10mm is loaded on the weak side, making it about the same as the .40.. So go with the smaller gun. |

get a 19 now then later, get one of those police trade-in G22s from online (CDNN and aimsurplus has got em for ~$330) shoot the crap out of em both i too personally think that if i were not getting th 9mm, i would opt for the 10mm but 10mm full power is expensive, so i rarely shoot corbons or winchersters in my g29 |

Well, I went and picked up my new Glock this morning. Got the 17 in all black. Price was $398.20 plus tax and it came with 3 hi caps. Since I got the LEO discount, I had to pick from models used in this area. Had a choice between all the 9's, 40's, and 45's. The 10mm wasn't in the list I could pick from, and the 34 wasn't either. And since no PD is using the OD colored frame, that wasn't an option. It came down to what most of you all said. The 17 felt better in my hand, and the cost of ammo. With the 17, I can blast much longer on less money. I liked the 19 and thought about getting it, but my little finger had no place to rest on the grip. The salesman pointed out I could get the extensions, but I decided I wanted the fullsize model. Thanks to you all for your opinions. It helped me with my decision. Now time to go shoot....As soon as the wife leaves for the movies.... Ken... |
