This maybe a total newbie question, though I just want to be sure. I own 2 glocks (G20 and G35). Now if I was to buy replacement slides for different calibers (all the internals), say a 21 slide complete to put on the G20 receiver that would be perfectly fine correct? Would work without a hitch? As long as the slides are the same dimension, etc.... A G34 for the G35 frame, etc...? Thanks

Yes some frames are compatible with other slides, but remember you'll need mags to go with the complete slide to function properly.most feel by the time you total up the costs for a few extra bucks you can get a complete gun.

Might as well buy a new gun for what a slide costs.

Ejectors are probably different too? (I don't know for sure).

it won't work according to the instructor that taught the armorer's course i went to.  ejector is the big one.

The g-20 and 21 slides will fit on each other and if he's changing them as complete slides they will function with the proper mags the extractor stays with the slide change over, but again after all is said and done really for a few extra bucks buy the whole gun and dont waste time swaping.

Well that's the thing, I am getting a slide for a really good deal, under $120, barely used. I figure once I add all the parts and barrel it will still be quite less than a complete upper (new), so that is my thinking. The extractor will be for the 45acp not the 10mm, so this will work? Thanks

The ejectors are where you will have issues, if any.  The ejectors all start from the same point on the receiver and then either:

come straight out-med size
bend in(right)- smaller calibers
or out (left) to accomodate the large calibers.

Like the above have said.  By the time you purchase an upper 300+ used or 400-ish new, you could almost buy the whole pistol.

I'd have to say that some armorers need to do a little remedial work. he
There are aftermarket barrels available from around $70 to over $200.  Check out the gun parts listings on Glocktalk.  Sometimes you can find really good deals on Glock factory replacement barrels.

The others are correct that the only issue would be with the extractor, you maybe able to get by with the 21 extractor but theres a good chance you may have failures.

Why would you think that he'd experience problems with a G21 extractor in a G21 slide?  What other extractor would you suggest for a G21 slide?

Extractor-  stays w/the slide
Ejector- stays w/the lower receiver.

If you have problems, the casing will extract, but may not eject properly if using a different slide/bullet size.

Scott:  Maybe I'm misunderstanding the implication of your post, but it seems to me that he's going to have a plain old G21, if he puts a G21 slide on a G20 lower.  As I said before, a G20 lower is exactly the same as a G21 lower.

Yes, I have a g20 and a g21 the slides inter change.  If you have a g20 you can buy a 40 s&w barrel and shoot with the same mags.

Yes the 21 and 20 complete slides can be swapped out with each other....................................
