.380 Glocks are forbidden from import by BATFE mumbojumbo.

If a PD buys a .380 Glock and then resales it to a civilian, is it legal in the hands of the civilian?

I remember that it isnt legal if they do that with a Class III gun (even though it appears to be a loophole that it would be, but I digress)...

Can a PD buy a Glock 28 (.380) and then sell it to someone legally?

Yes.

How?  Does the import qualification drop away once it is in the country?  Just curious.

I know you didn't ask this, but if I understand it correctly, the 380 would be the same size as a 9mm subcompact (or a .40 for that matter), so what's the attraction?

It's only a qualification for import. If it's in the country, it's in.

Taurus imports its snubbies with 3 inch barrels, then puts shorter barrels on them and mails the 3 inch barrels back to Brazil for the next batch. Glock imports ALL their guns with adjustable sights, then puts fixed sights on them.

I own a 17, 19, and 26 and have a shitload of 17 and 33 round mags and a lot of 9mm ammo.

I recently bought a Kel-Tec P3AT and wanted a .380 Glock to go with it since I now stock that ammo.

Any excuse to buy another gun, I guess.

I forgot that about Taurus.  Thank you.

At the last armorer's school I went to (last fall), the instructor said that, since Glock now makes most (or all, he wouldn't say for sure) of their frames in Smyrna, they MIGHT start making the .380 models here if there was sufficient demand. Myself, I can't see why you would want one, aside from collector's value, of course. The 9mm Glocks are exactly the same size and mag capacity. Of course, this IS Arfcom. Merely wanting one is sufficient reason.

ETA- Completely missed the point of your OP. According to Glock, once it's here it's legal for anyone. Supposedly, there is a black market for the .380 versions that have been brought in for LE use. Officer buys one, decided he doesn't like it and sells it. Supposed to be a pretty good markup to collectors but I don't know if it is strictly legal or not.

They're not available for sale to individual officers, only departments.  No black market for them, it's perfectly legal to buy them as a department and sell them later on.  They go for 2-3k due to rarity, so you're better off just keeping what you got.

I'd buy one if the price was the same as the Glock 19.  I reload so 380ACP like 9mm and a list of other calibers ammo is no problem. I already own a Glock 19, 20, 21, 22C, 23.  A Glock 380 would be a welcome addition to the collection.

Are the magazines for the 380 Glock hard to get as well?

+1. Why would I want to carry a wimp round in the same size package as a 9MM or 40????? I can see wanting one because I can't have one but if they were easily obtained my guess is Glock couldn't give them away. I doubt that many people would want a 380 except as a curiousity.

Add me to the list of morons that would want one. I'll take a G25 and a G28.

Yes, I know it is the same size as the G19/G23/G32/G38 (other than the G38 slide) and G26/G27/G33/G39 (other than the G39 slide)

Yes, I know .380 is a smaller, less effective round.

Yes, I know .380 is expensive for its size compared to the other calibers.

Yes, I'd still like to stick one of each in my safe.
