Any one out here an LE trainer/officer who has had problems with glock in 40? Any info is appreciated. If your department had problems, did you switch to another weapon, or a glock in a different caliber? Again any info/assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

Tens of thousands of rounds out our guns never a problem. Gen II, III and IV.

A few years ago, most of the guys at the PD I work for decided that they wanted to go together and buy Glock .40s to replace their 9mms (at the time, the PD allowed you to carry personally owned guns). I wanted a G23 instead of the G22s that the others wanted, so I bought a 2nd Gen G23 from an Officer that wanted a G22, for what he would have received for trade-in for the G23. The first day I got it and shot it (at qualifications), it suffered a catastrophic case head separation on factory ammo, blowing off the extractor and blowing the mag out. The gun went back to Glock and got fixed, but that started my intense dislike for the .40 round. I tried reloading for it and found that there was so little case head support at the feed ramp that everything I tried bulged the case at the feed ramp, unless it was so lightly loaded that the slide barely cycled. I got rid of the G23 not long after.

About 6 months later, another guy at my PD also suffered a catastrophic case head separation with his 2nd Gen G23, again with factory ammo. As with mine, his blew off the extractor and blew the mag out. As with mine, he sent his back to Glock, got it repaired and, as far as I know, still carries it to this day (he quit at my Dept and is working for another Dept now and I haven't seen him for well over a year now).

Having said all that, the guys at my PD with 3rd Gen or newer .40 guns (the PD just started buying and issuing Gen4 G22s) have had no problem at all. I've compared the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen/Gen4 barrels and the later guns have a LOT more case head support than the 2nd Gen guns I've checked. The 2nd Gen guns I've looked at have the chamber at the feed ramp hogged out so bad that it's a wonder they all don't blow up. In fact, I've checked quite a few of the cases out of the other guns at the PD and none show any sign of bulging brass at all.

Aside from the case support issues, I haven't heard or experienced anything bad with any .40 Glock, and the case head support issue appears to be fixed with the 3rd Gen and later guns. As long as the guns are 3rd Gen or later, they seem to be good to go. In fact, the performance of the Gen4 G22 I was issued is slowly making the bad taste in my mouth go away about the .40 that my experience with 2nd Gen guns left.

We have about 2600 officers, I think.  We're issued 22s, but we can also get 21s.  We can also carry personal purchased guns.  Mine is a 35.  There have been problems, but nothing characterstic of all out guns across the board.  They are very isolated.  What kind of issues are you seeing at your department?  Perhaps I can put you in touch with someone in our armory.

10+ years using the .40S&W Glock in G22 and G35 with ZERO issues.  I have not heard of ANY issues with ANY of our G22's, G23's, or G35's.

The Glock 22 is problematic in certain configurations such as light attached and 10 coil mag spring.

It can also be ammo sensitive due to corresponding slide velocity and again, mag spring.

What issues are you having?

I've seen the firing pin safety spring installed incorrectly, also connectors bent causing trigger reset failures... parts wear out through the life of the gun as long as your armor inspects it and replaces worn parts it should be fine, for personal use, most people won't shoot enough rounds to wear any parts out.

I also recommend heavier lube or even grease between the connector and trigger bar, that really helps improve trigger feel
