I bought my first 1911 (kimber) and I have a question about ammo. Since I can't find any .45 acp ammo at a decent price I have a bunch of tulammo that I've used for other .45 cal guns I have. This is probably a stupid question but should I not use tulammo in the 1911? I've herd it's dirty but if I clean it after I shoot it, it shouldn't be a problem right?

I just shot 100 rnds of tula through my Cimmaron today. I've shot it before also. Never had a problem. Yeah, clean your barrel a little extra. The main problem with steel cased ammo is that because the case doesn't expand to create a seal around the mouth fouling gets back around the case and chamber walls wich ultimately leads to stuck cases. Just scrub it good.

This is why God created the reloading press.

As long as it's not overpressured ammo, corrosive (just make sure you clean properly afterwards), or plan on using it for self defense, shoot whatever functions in your gun. Hell bad ammo sometimes makes a good tool for teaching clearing drills.

Some of us will work 80 hour weeks and with all that extra money buy a high speed progressive press. At 600 rounds an hour thats more ammunition than I have time to shoot and shoot well most weeks.

With Winchester .45acp costing .36 cents a round at 600 rounds, that's $216.00.

My reloads cost .16 cents a round at 600 rounds, that's $96.00.

At a cost difference of $120.00 that easily covers the cost of equipment and pay good wages for my time, IF that was the way I looked at it. I figure 10 minutes a night behind my XL650 as therapeutic wind down time after walking in the house after a hellish day. Figured that way the press and equipment should be charging me for stress free time with ammunition generated for even better on range therapy. Win/Win.

The advice given to me after buying my first 1911 was simply put. If you intend to shoot your 1911 very much, you'll need to learn how to reload. Awesome advice that I pass on to you who have 1911s and wish for more affordable range time.
