After function testing my 1911PD that turned out to be another in a long line of non-functioning autoloaders I've purchased, I ran across a 98% condition 2 1/2 bbl 686-6 six shot .357 for $380.

Anything I need to know about it? This is my first S&W revolver equipped with the new locking system, have there been any problems with it? Also, can anyone reccomend a good carry load? I was thinking of going with .38 Special +P SWCHPs due to the barrel length.

Sorry I didn't get any pics, I bought it just before I left town.

Great carry gun! I own the same thing but pre-lock thank God! I like 357 Speer Gold Dots in it. Even out the short barrel it has plenty velocity and stopping power.

Do you use the short barrel 135 gr. or the regular 125 or 158 gr?

I don't really have a way to test these and I can't really tell a difference in the kick between these loads. I'm going to get a chronograph(spelling?) to see the velocity changes between them.
For now I'm using the heavy 158 gr.

I use the Federal Classic 125gr .357mag in every .357 I own from a 2-1/2" M66, 3" and 4" K's and 4" and 6" L's, like your 686.

I haven't heard of any problems with the heavier S&W's and the lock, only the lighweight, scandium framed heavy recoiling guns, like the 329PD.
