Springfield would be the best ones to ask on this, however, I'm betting is has to do with frame battering. Shorter (lighter) slides will come back with more velocity (thus the need for stiffer springs) than longer slides. But then it is interresting that the Defender .45 GAP gun they have looks to be pretty much the same (albeit scaled down a little) from the Micro-Compact. The GAP cartridge is running at the pressure of a .45 ACP +P load, although my understanding is the Defender, being scaled down in the frame, has a relatively longer slide travel than a Micro-Compact. I'd imagine you are also going to get a heck of a lot of muzzle flash from short bbl guns shooting +P ammo. |
