Does any one have one?
Looking for info. Thought this might be
a nice pistol for the wife. I saw one years
ago and it just popped into my mind.

dphill:

I might be totally off base here, but I think the Grendel was generally considered a pos...  I could be wrong.

I've read, again that could be incorrect too, that the designer of the Grendel is the same gentleman who founded and still runs KelTec, but the KelTec is the refined product, while the Grendel was a first attempt...  I think just looking at the Grendel and the KelTec P11 alongside each other they are quite similiar.

Either way, I read and post on a lot of firearm forums, and I'll be honest with you, yours is the first thread where anybody was considering one of these pistols for cc/self defense use.

Just a suggestion, but if are determined (or she is determined) to get a pistol, vs a small snubby revolver, then consider the Bersa Thunder 380.  The BT380 has a great reputation for reliability, reasonable accuracy, and is small hands friendly.  It seems to be a great favorite of the ladies from what I've read on www.Bersatalk.com.

The BT380 will probably run you between $200-250, and comes in several different "looks", incld. a new concealed carry version.  Bersa/Firestorms come with a lifetime warranty, and both of my Bersa/Firestorms (BT9/UC & Firestorm FS22) have been excellent.  The only downside of Bersa/Firestorm firearms is extra magazines are pricy, and I don't understand why.  But the pistols themselves are very good.

Having said that, I still think the best firearm for a lady, unless she is a dedicated "gunner" is the old faithful S&W J-frame snubby, or even the Colt D-frame snubby.  Nothing is more simple, or more reliable than a good quality revolver.  My wife takes a Colt Cobra with her on trips, and feels adequately armed.  The Cobra is light, offers 6rds. vs 5 of the J-frames, and is a very nice firearm.

Options, options, options.

My opinion is no more, or less valid that others you get here, so take what advice you get with a grain of salt.  Most of us have "favorites" and refuse to budge to facts about a better option.

Whatever you decide to buy your wife, I suggest you have her actually shoot a firearm of the same model before buying.  She might love the "looks" of a pistol, but after actually shooting it she might want to check out a quality snubby. (or vice-versa).

Keep in mind that we are talking about self defense firearms, here, and self defense range is generally considered to be 5-7 yards, max...  So, no sense in her shooting at 15 yards and being dissatisfed with the number of holes in the target when she is better served shooting at the distance she might have to actually shoot from..  Five yards works for my wife and myself.

All personal biased opinion.hes,
J. Pomeroy

P.S.  Here's my favorite cc snubby and pistol choices.

This could be true, the Grendel p30 was, I believe only
made for a few years in the mid 90s.It's a .22 magnum with
a 30 round magazine. It would be just for fun for the wife. Her
go to gun is a Makarov .380 or her 20 gauge 11-87. She
shoots a little trap and joins me at the rifle/pistol range now
and then. This would be more a toy than anything else.
Thanks for the info.

+1 for the Bersa, they seem to be one of the top "What pistol for CCW for the Wife?" answers.
