I have a SA Loaded that I just added a S&A one piece magwell to. All went well, but after I installed it I noticed that my grip safety isn't working. Does anyone know what I did wrong?
ETA: I just put the orginal MSH back on and now the grip safety works. FWIW the original has an ILS and I'm using the same ILS internals in the new S&A magwell. |

Did you read over this: http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=436
My understanding was that when ditching the ILS, you need to purchase a new mainspring, mainspring cap, and mainspring cap pin. I haven't actually done it, just going off of what the article says. Let us know what you find out. |

If it's not the ILS, there is another very possible culprit. Most people assume that a mainspring housing is drop in. Smith and Alexander makes their mainspring housings with extra material at the forward edges of the top tang. This way, if you have a beavertail that is fitted to your gun, you can tailor how much swing out you have with the new mainspring housing in order to preserve the lines of the original grip safety installation.
So, with this extra material in place, you might have a grip safety that is depressed slightly, thus being disengaged. I'm willing to bet this is the problem. Remove the S&A MSH, cut back the forward edge, and trial fit until you get full engagement. Some little tips that will make life easier are these: -remove the ignition parts, leaving in the trigger -remove the MSH internals -when trial fitting, you can look through the grip frame cut out on the left side to see how the arm of the grip safety is engaging the rear of the trigger stirrup -make sure you deburr your cut on the forward top edge of the MSH -make sure you get rid of all filings before reassembly |
