I have an Essex frame that appears to have a problem. The trigger bow lines up with the disconnector, and I can fully assemble the lower, and it funcitons. However, I have tried 3 different grip safeties and all of them fail to block the trigger, because the spar that blocks the trigger rides too high. Also, the hammer spring housing barely holds them in, and leaves a noticable gap. I am thinking that the thumb safety holes were drilled too high. Is there any way to check this? |

The grip frame safety tab will glide down over/against the trigger bar when the tab bar is correctly fit. As for the distance that dictates how far down the bar can travel, this is the bottom lip of the safety against the MSH. The spring left tab will ride on the sear left side edge, and the middle leaf will ride on the back of the trigger bar just barely touching the disco until the MSH loads pressure against the spring, and causes the middle leaf to climb up on the disco. The far right hand spring leaf that bends outwards is the tension spring that pushes the grip safety to the at rest position, but chances are if you feel a bit of hard binding when it depresses, then the safety tab is rubbing against the back/top of the trigger bar when it cams out of play. Or, if you find that the grip safety/trigger is binding when the safety is fully pressed in, then either the bottom/tip of the tab is not clearing the back of the trigger bar, or the bottom L cut in the tab is not deep enough to allow the trigger to be fully pulled back/reach it's max needed length. As always, if you lack the talent to set the FCP points correctly, seek out a smith to correct the problem. |
Turns out the right-side thumb safety hole is slightly high. I peened the spar downwards and altered the end. It works fine now. But my next frame will be a Caspian. |
