Howdy. I recently picked up a slightly used Springfield V10 Ultracompact. I love the thing so far, with one minor problem. Went out shooting yesterday, and while firing it, the guiderod shot out of it and onto the range about 5 feet. The V10 is like most other Ultracompacts, and it has the bushingless front with the spring/guiderod thingy (sorry for the lack of terms). After safely retrieving it, I gave it a look over and it seemed fine. It just seemed to come unscrewed a bit. My question is: Has this happened to anyone else? I wouldn't think the recoil spring/guiderod could come loose during momentum of firing. Should I be worried about this? Thanks |
His slide would already be machined for a reverse spring plug since it's a bushingless system. When you tighten the GR, lock the slide back and give it a tight 1/4 turn making sure you don't overtighten. You can torque the GR a little more locked back than you can closed with respect to overtightening. Don't bother wasting more money replacing the part if it just wasn't tightened properly. If this doesn't fix it (and it should) then replace accordingly. |

Replacing the two-piece with a solid guiderod would guarantee that you never had that problem again. Takedown procedure would then require a paperclip instead of a screwdriver. Of course, you can always keep the two piece. I'd use some purple Loctite to help keep it together, though. |
No I unfortunately wasn't at that shoot. I don't own any high caps for 1911. I have a few 7 round springfield, a kimber 8 round, and 2 wilson 8 rounders. Definitely, was waiting to hear when the next local shoot is going be. |
