I do alot of trigger jobs, I can't help it, I love to do them.  No gun is safe from my obsessive-compulsive polishing of sears, hammers, struts, pins, and anything else that rubs or moves when a trigger is pulled.  But I haven't done anything to my XD subcompact yet, because, well, the trigger pull is just fine and I really haven't figured out the operating principle of it yet (since I haven't torn it competely down to the frame yet), although it appears to be fairly close to the Glock.

But the XD trigger has a huge Achilles heel, a gigantic flaw that keeps it from greatness.  Its reset is horrible.  HUGE.  You basically have to put the trigger all the way back to its starting position before it resets.  Has anyone figured out how to fix the damn reset?  Is it something about the sear, or the trigger itself?  Surely there has to be a way to fix this.

I'm by no means a gunsmith, but you may have something in common with this fella: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=13&t=16707

How different a Glock trigger is from an XD's I can't possibly say, but if nothing else, this guy's ingenuity is right up your alley.

I have to look at an XD at work today again.  To me it looked like it worked VERY similarly to a Kahr which you can't shorten the reset at all.  An XD could probably use a little smoothing , I've done that to Kahr pistols before and it makes a pretty smooth trigger that's good for new shooters because it's a complete suprise when the pistol fires.  Just a long VERY smooth trigger pull.

Yeah I understand what that guy did, but he just took advantage of the Glock's already short reset and just made a trigger stop to keep the trigger from returning all the way forward.  The guys who are saying he compromised his firing pin safety by doing so do not understand how the Glock's safe action works, once the trigger is reset all the safeties are in place until the trigger is pulled again.  Anyway, thanks for the link.

Actually when the trigger resets while you still have pressure on it the only thing keeping the pistol from firing is the rear of the trigger bar in the 'up' position.  The striker is still pulled all the way rearward and the firing pin is unlocked.  The tiny bit more of rearward movement just makes the trigger bar to drop at the rear releasing the striker/firing pin.  Only on a stock pistol when the trigger is completely released are all three safeties working.

I've tried the triggers on three different XD tacticals; Stock, Springfield Custom Shop's, and Cold Canyon's.

The job Rich at CC does is superb - The pull is sort of like a super light 2 stage- and it‘s the reason people are able to wrench maximum accuracy out of this pistol.  But the reset isn’t as quick or as definite as a Glock.

I'd also be interested to hear if "a fix" is ever invented.

Bar-Sto is working on a drop in trigger and sear that changes the pull, reset and overtravel.... I dont think its available yet, and I have no idea what the price will be.

The drop in kit is still a ways down the road, however we are doing trigger jobs in house on XD's. It is possible to eliminate most of the reset, get the trigger pull down to about 2 lbs, and greatly reduce the overtravel.............................HostetterBar Sto Pistols
