While reading the HK45 manual it states the final step is to remove the right slide lock by turning it at a 45 degree angle and removing it from the frame.  My question is why must this be removed since you have already removed the slide from the frame as well as the left slide lock from the previous steps.

You don't have to do it.  But if you want to, there it is.  It doesn't hurt to pull it out and clean up the "gear teeth" on it.

Exactly, for a quick clean there's no need.  For that occasional deep cleaning maybe so.  My HK45 takedown lever was a bitch to get out the first time.  I figured it would be like my USPs but the right side/ambi lever seems to retain it a touch better.
