| how bulky is this handgun? I'm about average size guy with about average size hands. I have heard the HK45s are alittle big and that the HK45C is more desirable for that reason? |

The HK45 is quite a bit less bulky than the standard USP series. The barrel sits closer to the frame lowering the bore axis, and the slide has been slimmed down quite a bit too. Plus it comes with 2 different backstraps. When I purchased mine, it had the smaller of the 2 installed. The backstraps themselves are stamped "S" and "M". You should really go hold one in your hand and ask the shop if you can try out both backstraps to see if it fits you or not. I'd say the smaller one would fit you just fine. Ive got large hands and the larger backstrap feels better to me, but the small also feels great. I've shot it with both and they both feel awesome. I like the larger one a bit better as it feels more like a curved spring housing on a 1911. As far as the full size vs the compact... thats completely up to you. Are you looking for a compact for concealment or a full size? I'd say the full size might be tough to carry concealed. Also the compact doesnt have the finger grooves in the grip. The HK45compact that I held just didn't feel nearly as good in the hand as the full size. Good luck, and try out those backstraps. I bet one of them will feel good to you. You absolutely will not regret getting an HK45. |
drtp7, I was looking at an HK45 tonight, but the lighting was a little off, so was hard to find this marking for the backstrap size. Is that on the outside or do you have to take it off to see it? |
Are we talking overall size of the gun or grip? I don't consider the Hk45 any bigger then any other standard sidearm chambered in .45. If you are looking for something smaller or something fitting the bill for compact...go the HK45C route. Personally I like the HK45 just fine. I have what I consider a small/medium size hand. (least thats the glove sizes I purchase) The HK45 is considered a full size so thing 1911 in comparison. They are both the same width. |
