| On the range today one of our team members had a wierd malfunction with his TRP, but isn't quite sure what happened. He had fired about 200rds during some quals and had a misfire. The hammer was in the half cock position, but we are not sure if it cycled that way, or when he pulled the trigger it only dropped that far and didnt drop all the way. He said he heard a very very slight click and the trigger did move, but no boom. He fired off another 200 rds and it didnt happen again. Just curious what gives. |

Kind of sounds like hammer follow to me.
Hammer follow: Fired a round and the pistol cycled like it should have, but instead of the hammer staying in the cocked position it dropped to the half cock/safety position. If you take a Springfield hammer and put the hammer in the halfcock/safety position you can still drop the hammer but most of the time the pistol will not fire because the hammer does not get enouph momentum to push the firing pin to the bullet primer. I say most of the time because if your firing pin spring is weak, well I think you get the idea. Have him take it in to a gun smith or Springfield is in your state to check it over. If there is damage to the hammer hook or sear the problem will come back. Once you have the problem it will come back, durring the worst time if the pistol is not fixed. |
