Needing some suggestions for a handgun safe.  I am looking for something to keep young curious hands away but yet be easy to access should I need it in a hurry.  Theft is not my top concern here.

Any suggestions are appreciatted.

If your basically looking for a cabinet rather than a safe check out Dick's Sporting Goods or other retailers for the Stack-On series.

I'm looking for something to keep by the bed, that can be accessed easily or at my desk in the office.

Sentry Safe makes a smaller digital safe, with key back up that works well.  Model X075.  About $100.  Light and you can bolt it to the floor.  take it with you wherever you go.
(don't get a safe that is waterproof and fireproof.  these take on humidity like you would not believe!  your gun will rust in no time!
good luck and be safe!

I have THIS, it has no electronics to foul, no key to lose, can be easily accessed in the dark, bolts directly to the bed frame, and includes 2 mounts (I have one mounting plate in my truck).  If you don't like this safe, I would at least look for a safe/box which uses a Simplex locking mechanism.

I kind of like this one, how does the combination work.  Do you push the combination buttons in sequence or all at once?

There are 2200+ combinations, you can use all the buttons one at a time, or combination of buttons, each button is only used once though.  I use a combination of a single buttonss, then a double button, then a couple more single buttons.  I believe most mechanical Simplex locks work this way.  Simplex is an american lock company, and the lock is made in the USA, the box itself is manufactured in China, IIRC.

Here is a thread where I wrote about the safe, as well as some decent pics showing how I use it:  Titan gunvault writeup
