Hello all. I'm currently a Glock 19 owner, but there's just something about H&K guns which appeal to me. I've spoken with a dealer around here and I was wondering if I could get some input from you guys on what I'm looking for. Basically I'm interested in replacing my Glock 19 with a H&K - this means I'm looking for something with a smooth, low-weight trigger pull (DAO LEM preferred), that fits well into my hand (doesn't feel small) yet is of a size small enough to conceal without problem. If you know anything about the Glock 19, it's that it's a 9mm weapon. As I have a bunch of 9mm ammo, I'd like to keep the same caliber, but I'm willing to compromise on that (although it would be to a larger caliber). The LEM, though, is a must for me. Also, anything without an external safety leaver would be nice - as I'm used to Glocks, I'm used to not having to thumb around the weapon to set something off safety. So with that said, what kind of H&K guru's here can point me towards the type of weapon I'm looking for? Thanks! _MaH |

You're essentially describing the HK P2000. It has the LEM trigger, no safety. It's a compact so it is good for concealment, but you'd have to see if it's a good size for you. They also make a sub-compact, the P2000 SK. Both of these models have adjustable backstraps so you can adjust it to fit your hand. It comes with 3 backstraps and the key to install them. It also has ambidextrous magazine and slide release. The other main option would be a USP or USP Compact. They don't have the adjustable backstraps and generally come with safety/decocker levers, but it's your choice. They are highly adaptable in that you can switch it to DA/SA, DAO, no levers at all, levers on left side, etc. It can also have the LEM trigger in it if that's your only desire. However, I think I read on here a couple days ago about someone saying the LEM in the USP isn't quite as good as the LEM in the P2000's. The P2k's and USP's come in 3-4 of the major calibers. Either way, try an HK with the LEM trigger first. Reading around, it seems to be a love or hate situation. When it comes to a DAO-esque system, I prefer the pull of the glock. |

USP compact fits your needs perfectly, if you don't want a manual safety then the P2000 is the way to go. Slim, hicap 9mm. The LEM is a source of some controversy. Some hate it, others love it. Personally, I like how it feels but have not had the good fortune to shoot one yet. The standard v1 USP is still about the best handgun in existence in my humble opinion. Did you know you can fit 13 rds of 9mm in a cheap 10rd .40 magazine? Cheap hi-cap mags! |

I own both Glock and H&K. Like both. Carry my USP 9mm Compact a lot more. While the slide of the H&K is wider the grip is smaller and more concealable. Still fits my hand well. I've been happy with my USP so far with no problems. I have the V1 and actually like the double action pull. |

Or...take a look at a HK P7 M8. Expensive, kind of exotic, with a delightfully crisp trigger pull due to the unique cocking design. A fixed barrel makes the pistol very accurate. It is also a very flat design for carry, and no external safety due to the design - yet is about as safe a pistol as was ever made, IMHO. If you think "there is something about H&K guns which appeal to me" than you need to do yourself a favor and at least examine one of these very cool and interesting pistols. |
