I'm looking to purchase a brand new 9mm handgun. However, I have a Taurus 9mm that I'd like to trade in toward purchasing this new handgun. What do you think a fair value is for this?

Taurus PT99 AF
There is some wear on it and I purchased it used from a co-worker. I only used it twice at the range and cleaned after every trip.

Oh and heres a list of what I'm looking at getting. hanksJim

you are better off selling it than trading it in.

A new taurus 99 blue has a whole sale price of $397.50 some places have them cheaper but I do not have online acess to them.  Lots on taurus 99's on gunbroker and auction arms not being sold.  Gun stores probably only offer $250-$275.  Either keep it or sell it yourself.  Trade in will cost you more in the long run.  Oh yeah what new handgun are you interested in?

I'm looking at either a Glock 19, Springfield XD Service Model or a Sig Arms SP2022.

If you get more than $270-300 for a used Taurus, I'd be surprised. They don't carry the resale values that Beretta's do.

Good luck to you!

pt 92

excellent $400.00
very good $300.00
good          $225.00
fair             $150.00
poor           $100.00
price guide listings. trade in to a shop and you might get $100.00, you'd make more selling it outright.

I've worked in gun stores for nine years.

Were I you, I wouldn't sell it.  The reason is that the Taurus copy of the 92 is a great gun, and totally undeerrated.  Oftentimes, people don't see the quality, they see only the name.  I've sold thousands of Beretta 92F/S guns, and hundreds of Taurus PT 92's.  This is one gun they got right.

You'll get beat up on the trade because its hard to resell it.  The dealer knows that he might sit on it for a year and a half before he sells it.  That's the truth from the gun store side of it.

I would keep it and wait an extra month or two to save up for the new gun.  A private buyer might give you $300, and that's a crap shoot.  That Taurus is a keeper and it shoots cheap ammo.

Thanks for all your information and suggestions. I guess I'll hang onto this until I can pick up a new handgun and then I'll give this to my brother.

Thanks,
Jim
