I just moved from NY to a more free state, Doing my CCW classes on Monday and am looking to buy a new handgun.

I currently own a Glock 26 and its a decent gun but my wife loves it and I have decided too pass it along to her after she gets her CCW permit. I'm looking for a .40 or .45 that has a smaller frame for EDC. Nothing flashy or anything like that. My budget is around $600.

I looked around the local stores but nothing stood out too me. I was set on a Glock 30 but I have decided to open my options up.

Brand wise I really don't care, long as it will go bang when needed and stand the test of time.

XDS or Shield, but you give up capacity of the Glock.

Since you're already familiar with Glocks, why not look at the G23 or G27?

There's also the M&P .40.

Not sure if you're interested in single stacks or not.

If you're looking for a small single stack...in my experience, XDS is good to go

Glock 30 is bigger than a 26, about the size of the 19/23. Since your wife is getting the 26 I would stay w/ the same, 26 or 19. Same holsters, mags(19 in a 26), etc. No mags or ammo to mix up, 9mm mags fit into .40's, just sayin'.

Most importantly, CONGRATULATIONS ON MOVING OUT OF A SHITHOLE!!!  I made the move from NJ 5 months ago and couldn't be happier.

If you want smaller you could always look at the Shield too, but she might take it from you and give you back the 26.

Went to a local store today, played around with the xds, shield, pps, and a few others. I really like the shield but they only had .40 in stock. I think I have decided to stick with 9mm.

Not in a huge rush so I will keep checking back and see if they get a 9mm in stock any time soon. I will admit the shield and xds both feel really small in my hand. But for EDC they would be great guns to have on your hip without sticking out.

HK USP45 compact - for some she might be a little bit bulky but (IMHO) - surprisingly comfortable for CC and even more surprisingly accurate and reliable for a compact handgun!
