Are these really that important? Why? The only real "dated" handgun I have is a SIG P226 with a datecode for 1988. The slide is even marked from manufacture in WEST Germany - obviously before the Berlin Wall fell. Is there any premium for certain date codes? Are there any "good" or "bad" date codes? |

Yes, they're important for guns such as German Lugers & P-38s. It can add or detract value. Ditto for Colt SAA, their price from 1st Gen to 3rd Gen is greatly different. AR-15s have pre- & post-ban, all on date of mfgr. I'm sure there's other examples but that's all I can think of right now. |
