Went to the gun store/range today for some practice with my FNX-9 and was surprised to find they actually had a S&W Shield still on the shelf.
It is very comfortable in the hand, and as they allowed dry firing, I found the trigger to be much better than a standard M&P 9, but not up to my memories of an M&P 9c that I fired with the APEX stuff onboard. It did have a crisp if heavy break, and an audible and tactile reset that is indeed very Glock like. It will be a very tough call between this and the Walther PPS, for me at least. In the end I'll probably end up with the Walther, but I would not be disappointed with the Shield either. I also looked at some tarted up "engraved" little Ruger 9mm thing. Not even in the same league as the Shield and PPS. YMMV, etc... |
| I too handled a shield today. It was comfortable in the hand. Maybe it was just the gun I was handling, but I was very suprised by now light the trigger was. Felt like a Glock with a 3.5 connector, but with less travel. In the end, the Kahr CM9 won out due to size, but if I were in the market for a single stack that size, I think I would take the shield over the PPS and save a few hundred bucks. |
