I have an XD in black... and although I have not had it happen to me I hear that the XD is prone to getting a little surface rust in high humidity states like here in florida...

So I an considering a finish like Hard Chrome or NP3... any suggestions?

Go hard chrome, its more rust resistant than stainless steel.  www.trippresearch.com

I have a formerly blued Commander that has been hard chromed for about 10 years now. Its been carried daily, IWB in a kydex holster. It gets pretty warm and humid here in the summers(up to 100* and high humidity) and so far, except for a spot or two, like under the grips and thumb safety, its done well against rust. My smith did tell me that HC is NOT rust proof and if you degrease it and dont re oil it, it can and will rust. I still wipe my pistol down each day and havent had any trouble except in the spots noted, and it was very light. Over time, HC will show holster wear like other finishes.

Heres what my Commander looks like after 10 years. The black looking streaks are actually polished bright chrome.

I like that 21   I was thinking about doing the same thing with my 21.  I just checked out their website, good prices!

I also had all the steel parts on my carry SIG 220 chromed as well as my Beretta 92G Elite.
