I bought a recertified P220 ST a few weeks ago and it's been exhibitng frequent FTF's when the slide closes. Most frequently, it occurs on a full mag (using either the slide stop release or racking the slide) but it does happen every now and then during the cycle after a shot. Here's a pic of what it looks like when stuck. Anybody have any ideas? I'm sure it just needs to be broken in but it's hard to do when it won't feed. The ol' 1911 slide slap doesn't work too well.

Presumably the pistol and mags are clean and the pistol (but not mags) is well-oiled with a quality lubricant. First, look for any form of binding as the slide goes forward (not too likely, but do the easy things first). Check and make sure the extractor isn’t causing the round to hang up as it slides up the breechface. Also make sure the feed ramp is smooth. If the recoil spring has a tight and loose end, make sure the tight end goes on the recoil guide first (so it fits up against the recoil guide flange). If the above doesn’t do anything, then replace the recoil spring (they don’t last forever, esp. with a .45). Actually IMHO this is the most likely problem. If you’re using a really heavy mag spring (like a Wolff +10% spring), that might also be causing problems. |
