An acquaintance of mine has 2 guns for sale. He will keep one and sell me the other (my choice). I think both are good deals. He has a Colt python 4 in. blued that he says is "like new" for $950. He also has a S&W M&P 340 with crimson trace grips for $900 from which he has fired 50 rds. He will not sell both.

I hope to see them this weekend. Which would you choose and why? I like both, so talk me into one or the other. Thanks.

What are your needs? Do you need a CCW or a shooter?

Neither. I have both, so it would not be filling a need ,but a want.

Honestly?  Neither for those prices.  If you're bound and determined to buy one of them, get the Python, at least it's likely to go up in value if you take care of it.

Python most definitely. J Frames are a dime a dozen and the Colt revolvers are no more.

Then I would say the Python.

Python, but that is pricey.

A used M&P with CT grips for $900? For being a friend he sure ain't trimming the fat off the price any for ya, is he?     That's what a gun store would be charging you.

The gun stores near me have the M&P 340 w/out CT's at $849 and with for $1109.

Python for sure.

If you are not gonna carry the J-frame then I'd buy the Python. Much easier to track down a nice J-frame for carry than a Colt revolver

For those prices i'd say neither unless you just have the money burning a hole in your pocket and there are no decent gun stores nearby.

But if I HAD to choose i'd go with the python.

I say the Python and that is not a bad price if it is like new with the box and original grips––or at least in my neck of the woods.  I got a python many years ago and foolishly sold it to my father which ended up trading it off.  In all fainess my father asked me if I wanted to buy the Python but we did not have the finances at the time  to g et it back.  Well, about a year later my wife presented me the Python for a Christmas gift.  My wife had found out who my dad sold/traded the Python to and she slowly paid him out.  I recently took the Python out to shoot and it is a work of art, but more importantly I think about my wife getting it back for me.

That's a good woman.

The python is quite a revolver, nice trigger...Nothing wrong with the S&W I guess, have never shot one myself.
