| My local shop has a RIA A1 for $450 and a Remington R1 for $650. I've read positive reviews on each one. Both feel good except for the grips on the RIA are a bit thick which I can change. If anyone has both or has shot both I'd appreciate any opinioins. Thanks |

In my observation, the quality level on the Remington R1s varies wildly. The one I owned had some significant fit and finish issues. To properly address them would have required some welding and remachining at a minimum. Remington had a chance to address the issue but apparently felt it was within their specs. I will not buy another Remington 1911 unless I can go through it piece by piece first. They also use the Series 80 firing pin safety system, so keep that in mind.
I think the Rock Islands, while rough, are generally built right. I only own one RIA doublestack 1911 and I haven't seen anything wrong with it that a few inexpensive parts replacements wouldn't fix. |
| My new R1S is absolutely flawless. Tight as a match pistol and breaks at 3.5 lb very crisp. If the rain quits this weekend so I can finally shoot the thing and it shoots as good as it looks, I'll be a very happy man. Have 2 friends with RIA's and they are really nice pistolsl also. I just have no experience with them. Not yet anyway. I don't think you would be dissapointed with either. |

I think the sight cuts on an RIA are an odd one. I've heard anyways, if you ever thought about upgrading them. You've heard? Please don't spread rumors based on what you have "heard". The sights on my RIA GI as just like a GI 1911. The sights on my Tactical are dovetailed just like my SR1911. |
| I went with the RIA. From all my research I haven't read anything bad about them. I nearly went with the R1 but the shop owner didn't have the case for it and only one mag. He was sure it was unfired and new as the guy he got it from lost the case when moving. It looks immaculate and unfired but I would have liked to have had everything complete. I have a feeling I'll be happy with the RIA. Thanks for the replies. |
